How come Baltimore and DC never produced any rappers?

Exactly, it’s a lot of factors involved so I forgot the radio. Only local shyt they ever played was Go Go. And like you said, to do any NYC type things was bama shyt. Its one thing to listen to it but a lot of nikkaz ain’t want to actually do it. That’s why rappers leave to ATL or LA or NYC and it leaves the area dry because nothing is being grown organically here like in ATL, Miami, Memphis, Chicago, Detroit, etc.

It’s funny tho you right. It’s a sharp contrast it’s either some backpack shyt or some trapped out gangsta shyt. Not too much inbetween, which is crazy considering all the conscious thugs in the area lol. I feel like it’s gon get better tho. I mean shyt, BMore and DC have definitely held the R&B game down.

Right. Me and Oddisee spoke at length about the polarization of the rap scene. This was actually the night Diamond District made their debut up Republic Gardens. I remember Section 8 Mob having a video on The Box and Morgan Freeman was in it. I remember Black Indian Get Em Siced video getting play on BET. BET headquarters was in DC so we had some infrastructure. Idk man. I gotta go back to the radio nikkas being part of the problem. Alizay broke Wale but a lot of other DJs were scared or just didn't have the ear. 93.9 had the home jamz segment but that wasn't enough IMHO. Plus DC just weird and political when it comes to support.

Did you just miss everything I posted? You mean YOU or modern inhabitants who live there don't consider it the South, TODAY. This has and can easily be proven false on a historical level. My ancestors who were born at least 100 years ago that I witnessed in the flesh who were also born and raised in those regions, considered Maryland, DC, Delaware and Virgina: The South.

I didn't miss it. I am telling you you can't lecture me about an area I was born and raised in by googling. It's really that simple.

Big facts, my cousin in the scene so I can only say as an observer from afar but politics seems to play a part on stagnating artists. Plus it takes a lot to win over everyone. Some nikkaz need you to be official in the street, some need you to actually be a good artist, and even if you both you still could get hated on.

The radio stations are trying. I noticed KYS been doing shyt to showcase local artists. But it’s not enough. I bet if I go to any other city their local artists are getting some play. LA, Chicago, Detroit, NYC, ATL, DC don’t really do that enough like you said. It takes a special kinda artist to make it here and in the end they’re more appreciated outside of the area. It’s just a weird scene fr....:manny:

I’m actually surprised at many cities that have a black majority that can’t produce rappers.

And with all this talk about the south running things there are probably a whole bunch of cities down south with black populations that can’t produce rappers eitherZ

Jackson, Little Rock, Charleston, Savanah all come to mind.
Every city got plenty of rappers nikkas from there just ain’t blow like that.

Quando Rondo from Savannah.

D.C. area got quite a few rappers that made noise in the last 10 years. Wale, Logic, Cordae, Shy Glizzy, Fat Trel, Goldlink. Crew was like they “we on the map moment”.

Baltimore got nikkas like Shordie Shordie and YBS Skola. Historically they got NOE from Byrdgang, King Los, Pac went to high school in Baltimore. I think Baltimore should be producing way more rappers but them accents are awful.

The better question is why Boston don’t produce more rappers.

I can’t think of any notable ones other than Guru from Gangstarr.

The modern Massachusetts rappers aren’t from the city of Boston but surrounding areas. Cousin Stizz the only one.

DTheFlyest (Brockton), Estee Nack (Lynn), Joyner Lucas (Worcester).

Euro from Young Money from Providence.

I can tell y’all exactly why nobody from Baltimore has ever blown up. I used to rap so I saw it first hand. Now this was the early 2000s so I can’t really speak on now. But in most cities a lot of rappers gain some type of local following first. For along time DJs broke new shyt in the club and on radio shows. That didn’t really happen too much here becuz a lot of DJs were too focused on club music and they would hate. First rapper who did kinda blow was Tim Trees with Bankrolls and I think mostly becuz the producer was a club music DJ who had all the connections. I think he produced Bossman’s first hit too if I’m not mistaken. I actually heard Bankrolls on the radio in ATL once tho back in like 03

On top of all this there’s a lot of crabs here

Bossman was a dope rapper outta Baltimore :

Glad you mentioned him. I was gonna bring him up. I used to play Pop Warner football with him and we ran in the same circles in hs. Even rapped together for a little while

A lot of hate in the city. People locally don't really support. Most up and coming rappers from Boston are heavily involved with gangs and street shyt so they either are in and out of jail or get bodied. Also most up and coming Boston rappers don't have their own sound and are just following the Chicago or Brooklyn drill sound.

In my opinion rappers (DTheFlyest or Joyner Lucas) from other Massachusetts cities are more talented then up and coming Boston rappers and rightfully get more shine.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
There's a huge problem that other states/area's don't have.... There are too many states, huddled in the middle..

In "DC" it's actually DC, Maryland and Virginia, all in a 45 min drive. You walking hitting an L and can pass right through from DC to MD in a heartbeat. Take a few wrong turns and you went from MD to VA. And another 3 will get you back in DC where you wanted to be. And that's not what happens on a side of DC or in a section of DC... The entire DC is surrounded by either VA or MD.

That leads to the most important part...... Everybody hates on each other. DC nikkas think they hardest. They think everybody soft.. Especially the VA nikkas. VA nikkas either go extra to prove that wrong, or claim DC, another thing DC nikkas hate. MD nikkas is a little cooler with DC nikkas, but they still don't really like each other. Same exact thing going on. Which is why some of DC hates Wale for claiming DC, cause he went to school 10 mins away in MD. But then ask yourself, why doesn't he just claim MD then? See what I mean. Then you got Bmore which is really 45 mins away. They also think they the hardest, but don't even spend time around DC nikkas cause the drive. So when they do meet, same bullshyt likely to happen. Same with VA....

And that's why they just started calling it the DMV. Cause you can't separate them. And that'd be fine if everyone kept it love, supported each other, reached out, and all that. Cause really, because of the closeness, everyone knows each other, or is family, or has mutual friends.... But instead, since everyone got a rapper, a crew, a studio, a producer, a clothing line, a hustle... They in constant competition. Always. There's been 10000 events over the years, famous rappers coming through, support shown... But you never see a movement though. You never see the whole area behind somebody though. You never see a bunch of crews linking up and doing music together. You don't even really see a team but they have like 5 solo rappers in it. All up in each other's videos, let alone outsiders.

I've heard Celo say the same thing years ago. He's tried so many times to unite the DMV over decades. It just won't come together. Puff went to college out there. Howard Homecoming is every year. BET was here for years. You think if the city made a huge push together, people wouldn't be noticed? And you'd have 3 states to funnel talent through? People won't stop the bullshyt and link up
