Bill Gates saves the lives of children. People in these poor countries would be better off if they had fewer children, as a whole. There are reasons that they have many children -- reasons which are rational. But when the death rate for children drops, so do the reasons for having so many kids. Instead of having 5+ kids, all receiving inadequate nutrition and investment, they should have fewer, better taken care of, kids.

Because it's usually people in developed countries that live long enough to die from cancer. Look at the leading causes of death in the US/Western Europe, and then look at the leading causes of death in Sub-Saharan African countries.

He's not trying to use vaccines to kill people. Even if he did, WHY would he say so?!

Here's how it works. Developing and distributing vaccines for diseases that kill children means that fewer children will die. Eventually, instead of having a bunch of children to ensure that SOME of them make it to adulthood, parents realize they can now have fewer children, because the chances of survival are much higher.

Less incentive to have many children per family --> less children per family. Not only does this mean fewer kids, but it means that the kids that they DO have get more nutrition and care. The generation that reaps the extra investment will be better educated and better workers. This benefits the entire country.
