Even slaves were considered incompetent and lazy. Think about that.

The thug American rapper is a by product of Americas lust for crime and violence. Its not a black thing. Its entertainment and it sells because Americans love it. No different then Hollywood. Rap is the perhaps the most definitive example of musical expression thats ever existed..... perhaps its also the most influential. But it has nothimg to do with how people see us. They even tried to treat Obama as a boy instead of the recognized leader of the free world. Their racism has nothing to do with us. We build they destroy, we attempt to rise as a people they stop at nothing to tear us down. Dont you understand this? They hate us period. It doesnt matter if we are some piece of shyt rapper or the POTUS. We still ******s in their eyes. You got to understand the ignorance as well as the arrogance. We dont create stereotypes... They do.... and they stigmatize and instill these stereotypes into the minds of all of us. To the point you think your the problem. Thats its us that makes them hate us..... As if they ever needed a reason.

But your speaking from the perspective of what "they" see us as....You didnt mention what conscious Black people see the "thug american rapper" as you call it.....The conscious Black person doesnt see the "thug American rapper" as a byproduct of Ameriocan lust and crime......U could have used that excuse in the 90's...Not in 2016 when the gimmicks of the past are over and for the most part we know most rappers are liars on the mic. In 2016 the creativity in Hip Hop is so stagnant that one is forced to say "OK where the hell is all this wrecklessness going because its creating a picture of all of us that doesnt match all of us?" At some point u have to acknowledge the damage that such imagery has caused and how that damage needs to be reversed with some sort of alternative. I see u mentioning the damage but you arent speaking on how the damage is a problem and needs to be repaired with an alternative because we are too far deep in a hole that we collectively created(Notice I say "we" as in you and me because all rap fans have supported the wrecklessness and as a supporter I have a voice and I'm pointing out how the damage needs some sort of reverse alternative that seems impossible)

You are talking about how the prison industrial complex ruined rap and fans of gateway pop based rap not the actual culture of hiphop.

Art Barr

But what was the collective doing when this infultration happened??

In 1993

KRS all of a sudden was now following the "smoking weed hype" and promoting smoking marijuana more

Flava Flav kept getting arrested for crack possession just pissing on what PE was trying to do

LL named his album 14 Shots to the dome which stood for 14 songs but come on LL!

Brand Nubians went from "Wake Up" to "Pass The Gat!"

X Clan tried to shut down teh crack house but no one cared because it wasnt self destruction.

Wu Tang pointed the gat at some dudes mothers head knot on an independent label

and soon after Concious rappers like Ice Cube and Rakim started promoting St Ides and The Intellegent Hoodlum would change his name to Tragedy Khadfi the Arab nazi.

When the collective didn't go against this infultration tha u speak of....the infultration became a part of teh culture......in 1996 Jeru The Damaja went up against Bad Boy and Foxy and all the materialistic rappers in a war he couldnt win and no one really cared....Thats when the standard for the acceptance of wrecklessness was set and consciousness wen out the window.

Who says its represents all of us. Some Black people have got to get away from this group mentality. Its not like only Black's listen to hiphop. Its primary fan base is white America. Now why aren't any of nay sayers of the genre depicting this music as having a negative affect on eveeyone else? Why is it the black race seems to be the only race that is so subservient and weak minded to influence. I dont buy it. Are there some negative trends in SOME of the music yes...but those trends dont represent us as s whole. Most rappers are highly educated. College gradutes. Business men. Not thugs. Most fluent hiphop heads are adults who have jobs. Not children. These kids don't know the culture that older hears perscribe to. But even thier influence is not what many of you state. Yall been shytting on hiphop but then will go support dead pool with your younger family and hype it up. But yall dont see a correlation of direct violence on screen and real life. But with hiphop yall third eye is open. You nikkas are fullof shyt. Yall see us as these things and hiphop dont got a damn thing to do with it. Perhaps many of you need to expand your circles. Cause all I know is black professionals. Hard working mothers and fathers. College graduates. Scholars. Are they still with the shyts absolutely.... But they are not thugs

Saying Hip Hop doesnt represent all of us sounds nice but the reality of how it paints a negative image of Black people in America is a fact..Proof, just check the responses in this thread. Cats in here already pointed out that Hip Hop does paint an image of what we are and how that image is projected by those on the outside. The fact that u pointed out that some of these rappers are college educated doesnt help either...Like someone already pointed out...Plies is college educated yet he promotes a "ignant nikka" image...what kinda bullshyt is that?? The Dead Pool comparison was also weak because rappers go out of their way to tell u they are keeping it real while we go into the movie knowing Dead Pool is full of special effects. I'm not saying mainstream Hip Hop paints a picture of what we truly are as a whole...But it does paint a negative picture of who we are on a broad scale.

That is under the assumption that every Hip Hop song ever made was only negative and that the means to get music to the masses was heavily controlled by black individuals. Neither is true.

While mainstream music has an over abundance of negative lyrics and images that continue to push negative stereotypes of black men/women I don't think it is fair to ignore contributions that were not all negative, not all some generic stereotype.

That's as far as I will go on discussing this subject as I don't have much of a place as an outsider looking in to a community I am not a part of.

If you accept that hiphop represents black people as a whole, then your a self loathing idiot who is looking for any and every reason to point the finger at something for your own failures in life. I don't give a fukk how other people view me, they viewed me as that way long before hiphop existed and despite our accomplishments as a race they still do. So to take some accountability for a musical genre that clearly doesn't represent me or any one I know, is some weak minded c00n ass bullshyt. fukk you and your what about black on black crime outlook

That SOUNDS nice but all u have to do is look at who were the leaders/top rappers In Hip Hop for the past 23 years and there is no denying that the bad outweighs the good. You'll name Mos Def, Talib and Common and then thats it..you'll be reduced to reaching afterwards.

This the the 2nd response u made that has nothing to do with the topic. This isn't about how "others" view us. Now is this about how "I" view Black peoples image as it is portrayed by Hip Hop. This is about the fact that in all of Americas History Hip Hop is the first time where the stererotypes of Black folks are self inflicted. This is a fact. Stay on topic and you wont make such childish unneccessary responses that have nothing to do with the topic.

No its not fact, that's your problem. Its opinion and an opinion that means shyt when compared to the actuality of how much its influence actually has on society, which is damn near zilch to none. nikkas like you don't need a reason to hate black people. But hiphop can be your scapegoat.

We are in agreement there but it's not an all or nothing situation. You can have some quality artists and music even if a lot of what is being pushed is horrible. It's not everything is great or everything is horrible.

If you think that only Mos Def, Talib, and Common have made 'quality' songs I don't know what to tell you. I won't argue you on your own opinion or anything. It is not a 'stretch' to include artists outside of those 3 at all....these are some off the top of my head from California that made music worth noting.
