Uptown, NYC
NY too busy dikkriding nowadays…

I think there’s a dark cloud over NYC due to karma. That’s why the South stopped em

Nah. Karma?

:whoa:

What did NY do wrong to deserve bad karma? LOL!! NY was holding Hip Hop higher than any other region, along with The West Coast.

This ain't what we signed up for back in the day.

One week, we got dudes apologizing for making diss records and pulling them off of platforms because it wasn't in their heart to do it. Few days later, fools are talking about how dudes don’t even write most of their songs and how "it doesn't matter" because "that's not how records are made today". Literally doubling down on how "lyricism doesn't mean anything today".

Then we got fake manufactured beef that got these bums using AI for diss tracks now, and R&B singers releasing diss tracks. If you look at most of the threads on here, damn near all of them are about drama and some beauty salon gossip sh*t about rappers "beefing", and how so-and-so on whatever podcast thinks this and that about it. And in between all of those millions of threads, you'll catch the occasional "rappers on trial" thread, with all the couch attorneys we have on here predicting how much time dudes will serve or not serve.

The difference between now and the old SOHH days, is that nobody actually talks about the music anymore. Look at how trash the culture has become. This sh*t is like Basketball Wives. The losers, casuals and posers are running the damn asylum now. The standard is so low, that nobody even seems to notice that wackness is the new normal. All the rules and criteria that Hip Hop was built on has been tossed in the bushes so that the corny and less-knowledgable can function in this sh*t. And the problem with the OG's and the older fans, is that everyone is too scared to call it out because they don’t want to be called "old" or "haters".

The situation with Mos Def is a perfect example. Dude told the truth, but then he got scared that he was looking bitter, so he tried to scale it back. Every OG who sits back and is scared to call out this bullsh*t, that's been allowed to change this culture, is a sucka and has failed Hip Hop. Legends with mad classic albums are scared to call certain sh*t wack because they're scared of how their honest opinion is going to make them look. They're ALL mad quiet now. Back in the day, if you thought some sh*t was wack, you just said it. You got old ass dudes on here who are scared to call out sh*t because they don’t want to get flamed for being older, as if that's a bad thing. The damn culture is shambles. And if you don’t think there's people who are from outside the community, who manufactured this shift and are making mad money off this decline in the culture, then you're an idiot.

Long story short, Hip Hop seriously needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. Because all of the forced drama, antics and mediocrity that's become "normal" and gets a pass all day everyday, is not even close to what real Hip Hop looks like. And the more people stay silent and play along with it, just to fit in and hide their real opinions, the more we have to deal with the gentrified version of what was created for the people 50 years ago.

Im 29. Thats half of 58, so Im old.

The last poll in TLR(at least five years ago) had most users here in their early to mid thirties on average. I've seen more too throughout the years...the median age here is around 35 or so

Schooling people takes forever; don't bother
hip hop is dead and is replaced with sell out puppets and white boy in black face melanin deficiency grifter cultural appropriation rap

it's no longer a voice for the voiceless, no longer representing the harsh realities of the come-up or the struggle, no longer revolution music, no longer teaching or uplifting the people with new thought patterns or breakthroughs of someone living life trying to figure it out in real time for the listeners to acknowledge their trials and tribulations and to learn from the overall mistakes of being human...it's just PR stunts and polished lifestyles of someone who already 'made it' just to boast that they got it all or stay on that teenager high school popularity/envious mentality of not having enough attention or who slept with whom gossiping, like who even cares? the physical body shouldn't even interfere with mind, spirit, and soul with fake people having body alternations to change how they look but still have bad taste like a total goofball and exposing hints of their true self on social media that conformists always gloss over...it's not even aspirational music of someone striving to become better, going solo into the uncharted wilderness of thoughts barely mentioned in song, or making a difference trying to pull the listener up. it's just end-game fodder, bad advice babble, reinforced stereotypes, rehashed lyrics and beats, and clone karaoke trying to be cool with blackness as a superficial outer shell aesthetic instead of a proud mentality

rappers just want to be characters just to make perpetually the same hits that people can barely tell the difference to in-between songs, with that droning on voice, but don't push the envelope to actually take risks and just repackage more of the same copycat hits together with recycled samples/beats or message familiarity, sprinkled with some forced gen z slang, accents, dance moves, and hopping on trends hoping to capture the zeitgeist of being relevant with their latest hits. they just put words together to construct the same hollow sentences that barely mean anything life changing or stick with the same trivialities of slighted mood shifts and flexing to cover up their insecurities to ultimately fit within the topic guidelines of what's the record label conglomerates deem 'acceptable' to say

rap has just been a vocal piece that regular people should pay attention to rappers with the same boastful words that insecure hollywood celebrities have in the midst of stan behavior becoming echo chamber cults with no independent thinking or individuality for the listeners -- it's been blending together as the same masqueraded bullshyt with no real humans in sight to create any genuine experiences, just the same mk ultra'd repetitive mind numbing hypnotic suggestive manufactured and curated thought patterns that cripples the population into real change, awareness, or action -- just limbo crippling stasis to herd outlier demographics into conformity to market merch to and a fake industry plant 'savior' as their cult leader. labels have been pedaling this shyt for years as if they are a pharmaceutical company with no real cure in sight, just fraud treatments on digital service provider payment plans as cheap dopamine insulin hits as the standard of entertainment value lowers, the same as fake drama in sports talk shows and reboots and sequels in already decayed and depleted of original ideas in TV shows/movies

everyone is acting out a role and tailoring their perceptions for their target audience to grow akin to with limited things to say because they are not really about that life outside of people feeding them information. nobody is being their true self towards where you can feel it -- it's all fraud and fakers out here. feel bad for the people without the receptors to even know what the real is still defending their moot point to argue the contrary or they feel satisfied living that fake life themselves; it's like they can't interpret the color blue or something...i haven't heard rappers call out fakes and crabs as an open threat on songs this decade for a hot minute
