I'll say it again...

Hip-hop is the artistic form of a (black) man...

This man will be 51 soon, and has gone from a crack era adolescence to rags-to-riches, eating-too-good-induced king's disease.

The vast majority of 50-year-old men are washed. The material assets are what they are but the vitality isn't there.

I don't love the term "late stage capitalism" as I don't know what stage we're at and how much longer this shyt will go, but I think it applies here

Rap is the dominant genre of music. It's on the charts and it defines the fashion, slang and pop culture of today. It's not an accident. Corporations heavily invest in growing it and marketers and brands pay attention to the trends

Within the capitalist model, rap has to continue to grow in size and profitability. As a result, it's allowed a lot of fairweather, casual and straight up outsider views and perspectives to be considered

Previously you had to sort of "buy in" to some form of cultural identity and history to be taken seriously and have some credibility in this space. Those days are done. Anyone can chime in now so the conversation is saturated and there's no cultural narrative anymore. It's definitely not regional either.

We sold this shyt out basically, and this is what we're left with. I'm just grateful to remember what this used to be, and that we got decades of incredible music and moments, and we still get them again from time to time...

TRUTH!!

And respect to Pete Rock for saying the same. He's been trying to speak on this for years. And just like they always do when legends start speaking the truth, they tried to brand him "crazy" and "bitter". But he's one of the few OG's who actually cares enough not to be scared to speak out about the b*stardization of Hip Hop.

It really starts at media:

When you start seeing people like Adam 22, Kai Cenent, Bobbi Altoff , Vlad, Akademiks, Wack 100,1090 Jake, Charleston White, Hassan Campbell, Say Cheese, Reggie Wright, word becoming law in the culture is where it took a real sickening turn
This I agree with. Still plenty of good hip hop out there, but the cornballs that have been propped up as voices I really don’t understand. That said, Ive never listened to any of them and if not for this board, wouldn’t know who tf they are

Gonna add to the fact that a sheer majority of the aforementioned are either provocateurs to an extent to blatant trolls. Unfortunately for us most people have room temperature emotional IQs so instead of responding in an intelligent manner(if not ignoring them outright) to their style of journalism, they react and rage tweet/post. Been seeing them do it to Ak all week. They won lol

Yo don't even sweat the mainstream aspect of the theatrical side of hip hop

The fake shyt will die and will reveal the lies

we are in a new age, where stans and people who are foolish will be punished for being too full of themselves

HIp hop wil be alive as long as Black Americans gate keep their culture more

honestly the chain is getting tighter each year.

Which is why they push, these puppets and pawns.

They're trying to turn the energy in their favor and we too smart for that bait

So the stans are left out to dry.

We gonna be good because hip hop is lifestyle not some fukking spotify monthly listener count or billboard chart selling aesthetic

I'm mad as fukk we let a fraudulent pop star run the game for this long :francis:

We should have been got this hoe ass, Shang Tsung ass nikka outta here like how we did Ja Rule and Macklemore
The Ghostwriting reference track exposal should have been the moment.

He should've been relegated to making pop from that point forward. But people still took him serious as a "rapper". That was the moment hip hop died.

THIS PART!

We really need to gate keep way more and have more control over our own culture. We're not even steering our own ship anymore. Back when we dictated the image and sound, not only was the music better, but we were more powerful as a collective.

They saw how powerful we were in the late 80's and early 90's and they made sure to do everything they could to snatch that from us and silence those voices. And we never got it back. Sh*t's been downhill ever since.

He's a pop act not some serious MC. That's fine, that's who should be making the records everyone knows and girls like to dance to. Anyone who treats him as a serious MC is a casual Hip Hop fan.
That's fine and I don't mind Drake as a pop act. The issue is people still treat him like he's a serious MC.

Yeah that's why muni long song got popular. We did that with social media, but we gonna get there. That's why when they show first week numbers and all
that.

That shyt is inflated as fukk, to make what we do on our own look weak.

Just know time will fukk all these lies up within the period of lying

best believe the grass roots from the kids to the elders are clamping on them gates.
