And that's a part of the problem
I'm looking at it all objective bro, I understand most of this board leans older so we gotta keep it a buck. A lot of questionable/clown shyt has slid in hip hop way before this battle that barely gets mentioned, if at all. I say just sit back and enjoy the fukkery, or not:manny:

This shyt been changed from most of this board's "golden years".

Nah, I'm not that old yet. LOL!!

And I can't get on the "Hip Hip isn't for me anymore" thing that I see a lot of the good bruhs saying. For me, that would be like giving up on the sh*t I've loved my entire life. I still have hope it'll turn around. I see people trying to focus on bringing it back. But the problem is, there's mad people who aren't from the community who are invested in taking it in another direction and they have a lot of weak-minded "fans" thinking that this is supposed to be something else.

I was a DJ for about 20 years and at some point I found that the music wasn't speaking to me like it did in the past. I was in the music industry too, DJ'd the hottest night clubs, worked at Roc Nation and was around a lot of artists my whole life. Every year there would be less and less artists I was excited about and almost all my favorites either passed, became inactive or fell off.......I used to buy or check for new releases every Tuesday and at some point I just found I had no desire to do so. It happened seemingly overnight too........and one day I felt so removed from the culture. I still read this forum daily and check up on news and beefs but I don't have the same love I used to have for it and I know that everything being made isn't for me.

I turned 38 in March.

I'll say this, those threads show a changing of the guard...there's a substantial amount of people in them and they're very active. Varying opinions too

Same, bro.

I haven't lost the love, but I have to try and remember how to keep appreciating this all the time. Before, it was easy to just enjoy it and be mad present in it and have fun. Now, I have to literally remind myself of what it is and how I can keep finding new ways to feel good about it and stay inspired. It's like a different world. And like you said, it's almost like we blinked and whole sh*t changed. It bugs me out.

Nah. Karma?

:whoa:

What did NY do wrong to deserve bad karma? LOL!! NY was holding Hip Hop higher than any other region, along with The West Coast.

The South felt NY was arrogant towards em so when they took over back in 2005/2006, they made it a vocal point not to let NY back on top

That's a stereotype based on the South's insecurities.

RIP to Rico Wade. He used to always say that the South had an inferiority complex and didn't need to because NY was always showing him love and NY was where everyone was learning from. Every region has its time, but the South has been wildly responsible for the decline of the high quality music we saw from '87-'99 that was coming out of all the other regions.

The dumbed down aesthetic and non-lyrical branding is what killed Hip Hop's innovativeness.

So what? As long as you don't I don't think it's an issue. He's a big artist he's gonna have delusional fans.
You make a good point. So maybe the issue isn't that people, ie his delusional fans take him serious, it's that people who aren't fans seriously engage with them when they talk about him being one of the top 3.

Breh...you know your history...it's more than just "birthplace"...

NY was the one holding the culture at a high standard. Which is why Hammer was getting the business for all that hard dancing and nonsense he was doing. You had to follow the rules, and if you didn't, you got clowned. So yeah, this is where all of that was established and built.
