He got 20 years for killing his girls baby. He's laughing in her face in court. Are you going protest if he gets beat to death?

Ok, securing the public is achieved. Now how do we rehabilitate them? And what about prison serves as a deterrent? Has it been working?

How do you rehabilitate someone who was robbing and shooting people on the street. He gets to prison and he's robbing and stabbing other inmates. Other inmates who may only have 2 years for stealing. He's robbing and trying to take their ass. He's throwing shyt on officers who try and punish him. He's stabbing officers who try and instruct him.

Because prison is ultra masculine and no one wants to tell, he may get a year or two added on. But he's still going be released. When he's released...he hasn't changed. He comes home talking about he was the man in prison. How is this a deterrent for other people's.? If you're vicious enough, prison is fine for you.

What's your answer for this?

We do a horrible job at rehabilitation which is why there's a prison to prison pipeline currently.

The truth of the matter is that US prisons are a wretched place designed for nothing other than punishment. What is the incentive for inmates to do well and avoid trouble inside prison? What channels are there for inmates to learn skills and behaviors that will be suitable after prison? What channels are there for ex-cons to reintegrate into society without many barriers?

There will be a few who refuse any offers to rehabilitate. When they reoffend enough times, throw away the key. The vast majority of rational humans will however do whatever it takes to leave prison for good.

We just haven't tried. We aren't interested enough. And going all medieval with punishments won't help matters either.

You are missing the point again.

Who is going to beat him to death?

An agent of the government? Do you want government agents who live among us, who raise children that play with our children, to be given the power to beat some people to death?

Prisoners? You want extrajudicial murderers to be released to the public?

The guy could have killed 100 babies. Sentence him to a life in prison, I don't care. If he acts up, put him in solitary and/or maximum security. Send him to Alcatraz.

However until he dies he is a citizen and has certain rights that should not be violated by any well meaning government or associated entities. Those rights include the right to not be extrajudicially executed or tortured. It's not about the evil of the prisoner.

It's not the guards job to play Judge, Jury and Executioner.. :comeon:

That's like saying Bernie Madoff should be beaten to death by prison guards for bankrupting all those families..or Diddy for pleading not guilty and showing no remorse for the 100s abused on his properties :francis:

Wait, let me clarify and add context lol...

I am NOT advocating for COs to have the right and job to beat inmates til death. I think i got that twisted.

I do advocate for officers to have the job to put the beats on inmates who don't comply.

A prison sentence alone is not breaking these guys. Prison is now seen as a sort of vacation where your freedom is limited, but everything else is still game. You're still selling dope, you're still stealing, you're still hurting people, and you're still saying fukk all rules.

Then they're going home with war stories about "sitting down" but their motion didn't stop. Influencing the youth to actually WANT to go prove themselves in prison because "it's not that bad if you're savage enough".

Inmates shouldn't have access to other inmates as far as I'm concerned..should be solitary throughout.

Did it ever occur to you that the fault may lie with the prison system itself?

Like, why are you using overseer language? Your job isn't to 'break' them, weirdo.

I'm disgusted that my tax dollars are being used to fund the lives of sociopaths who are free to interact with the rest of us like they're normal, to raise future little sociopaths, beat their wives, stalk their exes... sick people who should be quarantined away from us as much as the criminals.

What's not serious about my convo? Break it down to me the disconnect?
The disconnect is in your brain.

Employees of the state aren't mandated to beat people up and or kill people. The staff is supposed to protect you until you aren't convicted and do what they can to insure that you serve your time or conditions of your sentence. Not partake in your beatings or your death. What happens between inmates is between them. Employees of the state are supposed to uphold what's left of your constitutional rights, including trial by a jury of your peers, due process, etc.

Inmates are going to get what's coming to them one way or another.

If they want to be tough or prove a point then they can put their job duties aside and square up. When you hit them it's personal and legal, when they hit you, it's just business.

What, you thought prison was meant to be a soft all expenses paid vacation get-together :mjtf:
Prisons are supposed to be for reform to better individuals for return to society. Why would you want to mentally and emotionally destroy someone with long term solitary confinement and then release them into the world?
