Why Halo 5: Guardians Could be the Biggest And Best Halo Yet!
It’s another Halo year again! It’s time for everyone who owns an Xbox to get excited because these years are precious for us guys! The year that a new Halo comes out is like gold dust to anyone who has any investment into the series and this year we’re set for a great one, I can feel it! So great in fact, that I think this may be one of the best Halo games we’ve seen in years if you put the nostalgia goggles aside. Let’s look at why.
I’ll start off with what is probably the most obvious reason in my mind and that is the fact that Call of Duty no longer has a home on Xbox after being bought by Sony. It’s also important to note that Titanfall is going multi-platform for the next iteration too and that will make up a big chunk of the reason Microsoft needs this one to be huge. Microsoft no longer has an exclusive, or even any exclusivity deals at all, with a first person shooter on Xbox One… apart from Halo. What made them not re-up their exclusivity with Activision for Black Ops 3? Was it the fact that Microsoft looked at Halo 5 in pre-production and decided that no other FPS needed to be a part of their brand? Quite possibly!
Next it’s worth taking a look at a recent interview with a developer on the game who said “the campaign is going to be longer, bigger and harder than ever before”. I won’t ever turn down these words when it comes to a Halo campaign. We love the long campaigns with a real story, we love the big explosions of space stations and covenant fleets and most of all, we love it when it’s hard to beat a Halo campaign on legendary. We all saw the demo at E3, the campaign is gonna be a real nail-biter!
On the subject of E3, 343 showed us another reason to get excited about the multiplayer/co-op in Halo 5: Guardians. Their new mode WarZone looks to really shake the pillars of what we know about Halo multiplayer and co-op experiences. It’s 12vs12 player combat, with AI added into the fight to keep things fresh and interesting, while also helping the newer player feel like they’ve achieved something and boss fights to make it feel like you always have something to do. This new mode will keep Halo players coming back for days and days at a time, wanting to keep on fighting through these massive fields of mayhem. I hope that we will see a lot of focus on this mode post-launch with new maps being added intermittently. Don’t worry multiplayer vets, Halo multiplayer is returning as normal too!
All in all, it’s set to be a huge couple of years for 343 and Halo and I hope they’re up for the challenge! This might be the biggest Halo, maybe even the biggest shooter of the year!
Will Halo 5: Guardians be the biggest yet? Are you going to buy it? Leave us your thoughts down below!
