Why Halo 5: Guardians Could be the Biggest And Best Halo Yet!

It’s another Halo year again! It’s time for everyone who owns an Xbox to get excited because these years are precious for us guys! The year that a new Halo comes out is like gold dust to anyone who has any investment into the series and this year we’re set for a great one, I can feel it! So great in fact, that I think this may be one of the best Halo games we’ve seen in years if you put the nostalgia goggles aside. Let’s look at why.

I’ll start off with what is probably the most obvious reason in my mind and that is the fact that Call of Duty no longer has a home on Xbox after being bought by Sony. It’s also important to note that Titanfall is going multi-platform for the next iteration too and that will make up a big chunk of the reason Microsoft needs this one to be huge. Microsoft no longer has an exclusive, or even any exclusivity deals at all, with a first person shooter on Xbox One… apart from Halo. What made them not re-up their exclusivity with Activision for Black Ops 3? Was it the fact that Microsoft looked at Halo 5 in pre-production and decided that no other FPS needed to be a part of their brand? Quite possibly!

Next it’s worth taking a look at a recent interview with a developer on the game who said “the campaign is going to be longer, bigger and harder than ever before”. I won’t ever turn down these words when it comes to a Halo campaign. We love the long campaigns with a real story, we love the big explosions of space stations and covenant fleets and most of all, we love it when it’s hard to beat a Halo campaign on legendary. We all saw the demo at E3, the campaign is gonna be a real nail-biter!

On the subject of E3, 343 showed us another reason to get excited about the multiplayer/co-op in Halo 5: Guardians. Their new mode WarZone looks to really shake the pillars of what we know about Halo multiplayer and co-op experiences. It’s 12vs12 player combat, with AI added into the fight to keep things fresh and interesting, while also helping the newer player feel like they’ve achieved something and boss fights to make it feel like you always have something to do. This new mode will keep Halo players coming back for days and days at a time, wanting to keep on fighting through these massive fields of mayhem. I hope that we will see a lot of focus on this mode post-launch with new maps being added intermittently. Don’t worry multiplayer vets, Halo multiplayer is returning as normal too!

All in all, it’s set to be a huge couple of years for 343 and Halo and I hope they’re up for the challenge! This might be the biggest Halo, maybe even the biggest shooter of the year!

Will Halo 5: Guardians be the biggest yet? Are you going to buy it? Leave us your thoughts down below!

Preview the plot of Halo 5: Guardians when ‘Hunt the Truth’ Season two debuts tomorrow

Halo 5: Guardians is one of the fall’s most anticipated titles, and one of the most intriguing entries in the Halo series in a long time. The trailers have hinted at a twisted narrative that could portray the hero Master Chief in a darker light than previous games. Spartan Locke is the game’s other playable character, a character who is being brought the main series after existing in expanded universe lore for quite some time.

“Hunt the Truth” is a Halo 5: Guardians podcast that serves to fill in the background of the game’s plot. Narrated by a war journalist in the Halo-universe, the audio exposes some secrets about the world at the time of Halo 5. Season two will be vastly different from the first season and will resolve its ambiguous conclusion. Time has an exclusive preview of the podcast available right now.

“Hunt the Truth”Season Two begins on September 22, and Halo 5: Guardians launches exclusively on the Xbox One on October 27.

A user on Reddit has allegedly leaked some new details on Halo 5’s multiplayer mode. According to the post the new info comes from the latest Halo 5 beta build.

Credit goes to Halo5guy who writes that he has played one of the latest beta builds at a friends house. According to the post the latest multiplayer build is 3 weeks old.

Some pictures have been included that should confirm that the ‘leaks’ are legit. The new details haven’t been confirmed yet, so take the info with a grain of salt.

Judging from the menu’s that the poster witnessed, the game’s multiplayer mode will include:

  • 17 Assassination animations to unlock
  • 220 emblems
  • 14 stances
  • 175 armor (for both helmet and armor)
  • 53 visors

In an earlier post on the Teambeyond forums, 343’s studio head Josh Holmes already stated that the game’s armor sets will use many different skins/patterns:

Yes, you will find a ton of different variants including many different skins/patterns. When you see the scope and quality of different options we’re providing, the merits of the system will become more clear.

Holmes added that 343 decided to limit customization options in Halo 5 in order to offer higher quality content:

Supporting interchangeable parts creates limits on the types of designs that can be created, the variety of skins that can be supported and the quality that can be achieved. So what you gain in one sense (user-selectable accessories), causes tradeoffs in another. We didn’t find the helmet accessories and interchangeable shoulders, forearms, etc. as compelling as the breadth and diversity of high quality content we want to support. It’s a tradeoff that some will embrace and adore while others will lament. Check out the system and the content available before you cast judgment.

The post on Reddit also gives some insight in the amount of weapon skins available in the game’s mp mode:

  • 10 Assault Rifle Skins
  • 7 Battle Rifle Skins
  • 5 DMR Skins
  • 5 SMG Skins
  • 7 Magnum skins

Recently 343i detailed the Requisition (REQ) system for the game and if the Reddit post is to believed, the multiplayer mode will feature 5 unlockable types of packs, 1 of which is a recurring weekly reward for those who get the req pack with the game.

The 4 other packs are:

  • Platinium (?)
  • Gold (10000-15000)
  • Silver (5000-7500)
  • Bronze (1250)

343’s initial pitch to create the REQ system was simple according Holmes:

let’s create a deep reward system for the game that allow players to collect items from a large pool of compelling content, delivered in a series of randomized packs. We wanted the system to produce the same joy and excitement that comes from opening a booster pack of and discovering a rare card inside. The system would need to bridge all of our multiplayer experiences in Halo 5, and should provide an inventory of weapons, vehicles and power-ups to be used for the dynamic deployments that are featured in our new Warzone mode.

There you have it – some nice additional info on Halo 5’s Multiplayer mode. As said, take the information with a grain of salt though.
