*yawn*. Hakeem is just another corporate Democrat in the mode of Nancy Pelosi, only with a black face. He has no interest in promoting the type of substantive policy that the country needs. Instead, he'll work around gaping wounds with bandaids, as is the Democratic establishment way. He'll continue to promote absurd military budgets, won't call out stock trading and the legalized corruption that sees donor wishes handled with more importance than policy that would benefit the average person and on and on.
Having said that, I support voting Democrat at all times for pragmatic reasons. Dems will grudgingly pass beneficial legislation because their base pushes for it, unlike the Republican base which is more concerned with culture war nonsense like trans people, Dr Seuss, etc. than policies that may actually benefit their lives. Modern day Republicans are also proto-fascists and stopping them from gaining power is of paramount importance - even though it means voting for Democrats that eat from the same trough.
The way I see it, there are two choices - don't vote and cede the country to a fascist hellscape and hope somehow that makes a better future, or vote Dem and the small gains they give, while holding fascists at bay and continue to vote for progressives in primaries to change the party from within. The youth have been trending more and more socialist as the realization of 40+ years of neoliberal policies hits them. That, and organizing outside of politics is what will move this country forward.
Jeffries clever speeches and "oooh he stuck it to the Republicans there" barbs are meaningless. Policy positions are what matters at the end of the day.
