The Deep State
A good companion book to read with GGNS is Darren Acemoglu and James Robinson's, Why Nations Fail. They don't buy Jared Diamond's arguments. They argue that institutions (basically controlled by society's elites) determine the rise and fall of civilizations. They try and dispel the location argument by pointing out that Nogales, Mexico and Nogales, Arizona are only separated by a national border. The people are virtually the same genetically. But life expectancy, crime and GDP are significantly different. They say the reason is government, rule of law, job opportunities, etc. In their view, you fix/contaminate the institutions, you make/break the society.
i'm already suspicious of these claims since boundaries have ALWAYS existed and nation-states/kingdoms have always been led by a select few who had the direction of the community on their back...but the influence of geography and agriculture can't be overstated...ESPECIALLY in those formative years of human civilization.

talking about life in the 20th century just ignores how streamlined so much of it really is for the most part around the world.

Guns, ships and literacy were the main technologies that the european had and the africans lacked

and the europeans never enslaved southern africans, they enslaved west africans, they did conquer the rest of africa with guns tho
africans weren't "illiterate"

not speaking/reading european content doesn't mean you don't have spoken or written language.

explain exactly how they were more "technologicilly" advanced, the only reason why europeans successfully enslaved majority of southern africans was because they used the technique devide and conquer.
uh...i'm not sure what you don't get.

The europeans showed up in refined steel and muskets.

shyt was gonna get ugly anyways.

His statement is kinda true :manny:
Colonials did use the divide and conquer tactics but you know how hard headed us Somalis are :jawalrus:
We had a liberation movement called the Darawish which murked the Italians and especially the British so bad that they were forced to call in air bombardment for the first time ever in Africa.
:ehh: bout the last part... I don't know which statement are true tho.... African's didn't have w language or ships and that's why they were conquered?

the people of west africa were illiterate for the most part, the only literacy was mostly from islamic influence, there were no written languages in west africa outside of that

We been trading with the Arabs, Indians and Chinese (just to name a few) for thousands of years breh. East Africa was part of the Silk Road.

We didn't have languages? Is that why we still speak Somali back home and refused to adopt the colonial's language :mjkkk:

when you lose a war, you have to go back an analyze why you lost, if you dont break down why you lost then there is no way you can make a comeback

these false "afrocentric" narratives about how africans were conquered by europeans serve no real purpose outside of making you feel better

im just giving it to you real so that way we can make make corrections

if you dont understand that the europeans had superior technology and that is why they become so dominant you do not have a full grasp of what happened these 500 years of human history

you probably need to go back and read ur statements about ships language and all that...

Then look at the truth.

Then just fall back.
