Every coach has flaws, Spo isn't the best, but he sure as hell ain't the problem.
Having elite talent w/ an average to slightly above average coach>>average to slightly above average talent with an elite coach.
You keep mentioning elite players like we had the assets to get them. No elite players are coming to south beach to settle for a cheap salary. And yes, Spo is the primary problem of the scoring droughts. This issue has been carrying on for too long. We have players running a system that isn't working for them. Jacking up threes in most possessions, predictable kick out passes, and small ball line up are problems that Spo needs to fix.

I just realized we are going to go as far as Waiter's bum ankle is going to take us

The offense is built around his ability to penetrate and make plays. If he produces our offense doesn't look as bad.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra wants shooters to become more aggressive
December 5

By Shandel Richardson

Heat guard Dion Waiters has never had a problem with taking open looks at the basket.

Now, he wants his teammates to start thinking the same. The Heat’s perimeter players such as Wayne Ellington, Josh Richardson and Tyler Johnson have been passive at times, especially at the 3-point line.

"Film don't lie,” Waiters said. “Sometimes if you watch film and you take a shot you don't always see the guy that's open. … When you're locked in and in that zone you've got your mind set, catch and shoot.”

The Heat have made an effort to convince players like Ellington, who have been hesitant in certain situations.

Although the ball is mostly in the hands of Waiters and point guard Goran Dragic, the Heat want their role players to feel comfortable shooting the ball.

“We want to shoot those open shots,” Dragic said. “Sometimes when we don’t shoot that ball, you’re getting a tougher shot. Then it’s isolation one-on-one. If there’s an open shot, they need to shoot with confidence.”

More early touches for Waiters

Waiters has proven he can step up during late-game situations but the Heat are searching for ways to get him involved earlier.

“It’s tough,” Dragic said. “The ball needs to move more. Now, he’s handling the ball more. I’m more in the corner. He needs to create his own shot a little bit more. If he creates for others and then we need to get great shots. … We have to swing the ball.”

Waiters said part of the reason is he’s trying to be more of a playmaker this season.

“I've got to come out and get guys involved,” Waiters said. “Being a playmaker, I've got to set guys up. I always feel like I can get a shot off and get my offense going. As a guy like me, if I feel as though like they're involved, then I feel like we've got a chance to win. And if they've got their confidence going, I'm good with that. I've just got to get them shots off. When it comes to those late game situations, it's whatever."

Winslow’s improvements

Spoelstra said playing time has been the biggest reason for the improvements made by third-year forward Justise Winslow.

The strides have been encouraging considering Winslow missed most of last season with a shoulder injury.

“Just being out there,” Spoelstra said. “That’s always been the important thing about Justise is he finds different ways to impact the game. So we didn’t get to see it long enough last year. Right now, he’s been able to play more consistent minutes, he’s doing it from different areas of the court and I still think he can get to another level particularly defensively. Making more plays and being even more active and more disruptive.”

McGruder progressing

Spoelstra said there was nothing to update on guard Rodney McGruder, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season because of a stress fracture in his leg.

“He’s doing more,” Spoelstra said. “But nothing more like running, cutting or anything like that.
