A debut album is so important to a career. The latest trend is rappers dropping fire mixtapes then selling out their first album. So much pressure from labels and suits to do what they think is best it's hard for an artist to have the focus to stick to what got them where they are. GKMC is Kendrick evolving and moving his sound and message forward. The album blends together and the narrative is relatable to anyone thats lived in the 90s. Kendrick goes in and out of his character so you're getting two stories.
This album is a lot more personal than Section 80. I didnt like Tammys Song or No Makeup on S80 none of the tracks on this album are bad or skippable. His voice is unique and if you are not a fan of different voices then you probably won't like this album. Damn this album is so good. Gonna get home and spark another one to this.
