TYRONE GA!
At the time he was cast as Brons peer and even better in some peoples eyes. That said I dont think Karl was being serious. I think it was a misguided attempt at motivation. I think that actually revealed the shortcomings of both men. Karl obviously didnt know how to talk to people and overrated his own self. Like if Phil or Pat says that it might get the desired response. Melo took that shyt to heart but not in the right way. A Kobe or Mike or Bron or Duncan takes that as a challenge and does everything in their power to prove dude wrong and is actually thanking him for it 20 years later.
100% agree with this

But Karl is a dikkhead so fukk him

It's a message vs messenger thing.

Everyone agrees with what GK is saying but no one wants to hear it from HIM.

Exactly.

You can't be a coach and on the very first day you talk to your star player, you call him an overrated Detlef Schrempf.

1. Detlef was a really good player.
2. Carmelo was like 21 or 22 years old. Of course he has room to grow. If you're the coach, your job is to teach him and build his confidence.

:what:

The fact that George Karl is 72 years old, on social media, taking jabs at Carmelo Anthony speaks to what kind of catty hoe that man is.
You're a retired NBA coach. You should be growing weed in Hawaii or something like Don Nelson.

Coaches job is to put the team in the best position to win games. It is also to develop players in a way, but a lot of that has to do with developing in ways that are good for the team, or something better than themselves.

All this shyt about building confidence and blah blah, this is Karl's point. Dude has no father figure (and I'm not shytting on that, it is unfortunately his father died of cancer), stayed a year in college, is good at hoops but ultimately kind of rudderless in a way that certain people are not.

He's just giving his perspective on the situation. Truth is, everyone has always known it to be true of Carmelo.

By the way, Melo's career proves Karl correct. Talented scorer, horrible defender and teammate, never won when it mattered.

It is what it is.

And Detlef was a helluva defender? Luka literally has to be hidden on Defense and nikkas is ok with that, but wanna crucify Melo for being soft on D….. can’t make this shyt up…. :childplease:

Melo was one of the best scorers in the league. This notion that everyone is supposed to be a GOAT tier player or they’re a “failure” is so stupid coming from fans.

As Kenyon Martin as said, it’s telling that no one ever sticks up for George Karl. He’s clearly a dikkhead.

It’s not usually what you say but how you’re saying it to people.

No problem coming in and telling Melo or anybody else on the team for that matter “hey you’re not there yet, but let’s work on getting you there.”

You're proving Karl's point. These are supposed to be professionals, acting like hoes. That's his whole point.

I agree. I am all for people being more thoughtful with how they talk to people and clearly Karl lacked in people skills. However is what Karl said really that out of bounds? Whats the biggest complaint about modern athletes? Too soft and entitled. A coach says you are Detlef Shremp and you are more focused on how ridiculous it is and how he said it rather than proving him wrong? Again, Karl aint one to talk with his choking ass but that what he was trying to do is coaching psychology 101.

You can call somebody a bytch without reminding them they have no father. At that point your going for a double whammy and its excessive.
Its hoe shyt plain and simple. You cant control whether or not your father was around and its a source of great pain for many so to use it as some sort of insult is just cruel. Makes me wonder what his dad was doing :mjpls:. My pops definitely raised me better than that.

Melo had an amazing NBA career. Can we just acknowledge that?

The NBA has had many scorers "that could have been so much more"....but didn't have the microscope put on them.
No doubt, he had a great career.

But when you look at Durant.

There is Nothing Durant does that Melo can't do. Melo should have been that guy

Truth is Karl and Melo are probably the same guys.

Both were difficult to get along with. Both have records but are ultimately overrated. Neither one could win a title. Both are annoying and kind of hard to take seriously.

We never get this "woulda, coulda, shoulda" fault-finding when it comes to other players of his ilk such as George Gervin, Alex English, Elgin Baylor, etc......
