At the time he was cast as Brons peer and even better in some peoples eyes. That said I dont think Karl was being serious. I think it was a misguided attempt at motivation. I think that actually revealed the shortcomings of both men. Karl obviously didnt know how to talk to people and overrated his own self. Like if Phil or Pat says that it might get the desired response. Melo took that shyt to heart but not in the right way. A Kobe or Mike or Bron or Duncan takes that as a challenge and does everything in their power to prove dude wrong and is actually thanking him for it 20 years later.

nikkaS ACTING DENSE.

ITS VERY CLEAR WHAT KARL WAS ATTEMPTING TO DO.

Shytting on his best players has always been a part of Karl’s coaching strategy. Melo is leaving out the fact that GK eventually coached him to the WCF which is the farthest he ever got. He achieved more under this coach than any other in his NBA career

Melo was one of the best scorers in the league. This notion that everyone is supposed to be a GOAT tier player or they’re a “failure” is so stupid coming from fans.

As Kenyon Martin as said, it’s telling that no one ever sticks up for George Karl. He’s clearly a dikkhead.

No one sticks up for Melo. They shyt on him too but in a nice way because they like him. I can't remember who said it but one former player Melo would be mad in a win if he only scored 10 but happy/okay with a loss but 40 points.

I dont think any one has a problem with a coach using that as a motivation tactic, I think the problem is him doing it the first time they ever met and just the overall sentiment that he didn't fukk with Melo at all, which is clearly shown by him shytting on Melo every chance he gets for the last 6 or 7 years.

And I still never heard Melo say a bad thing about this man. Even in the clip Melo didn't disrespect Goerge Karl. George Karl def disrespected Melo in that tweet though. Which just proves the point even more.

Melo doesn’t have to leave out shyt. George Karl still under coached that team.

They couldn’t even throw a proper inbound pass, which ruined their opportunity to go to the championship… Twice. He’s trash.

First ever NBA coach to have a number one seed lose to an eighth seed in the first round in the playoffs

Melo’s character isn’t in question here and even if it was, there are way more people that have positive things to say about Melo than there are people that say positive things about George Karl.

Literally none of his former star players like him and if we’re being frank, Karl’s coaching career draws the same parallels as Melo’s playing career. Put up numbers but never won when it matters so who’s Karl to come in to an organization and shyt on people?

Considering the trajectory of young black men nowadays…..

Clearly George Karl was in the wrong but it’s one of those ‘even tho you probably right you aren’t the person who can say that’ type of wrong :manny:

Kenyon, JR, and Melo have all matured to be stand up grown men. They weren’t at the time. It’s the type of uphill battle that, yes, men raised without a father figure deal with

Everyone gets into the basketball HOF

No they don't, since 1959 only 436 coaches players ref and contributors have been inducted in the HOF out of maybe 6000 coaches players and refs and contributors

The NBA is damn near impossible to make in general so what does that tell you about the odds of being a hall of famer. Don't disrespect it like it means nothing cause you dont like Carmelo Anthony
