So you don't see a problem with the first time he goes to talk to his new superstar he tells him "I think you're overrated and I view you as a Detlef Schrimpf caliber player"? First meeting? How was he overrated? He was rarely in anybody's top 5 list and was looked at just as he is, somebody that was an unstoppable scorer who was weak at playmaking and defense. But even with that scoring is the hardest thing to do in the league, and he was an elite scorer thus a star player.

Coaching of that era was overwhelmingly influenced by a military tradition. You should've heard the shyt Pop and Phil was saying to PROVEN fukkING WINNERS.

There's a huge difference between screaming on a player based on how he's playing on the court and just flat out being disrespectful. If you are coming in day one and saying some wild shyt like that just in a one-on-one meeting you are going to lose a lot of players mentally. Especially one as young as Carmelo at the time who had shown so much potential.

Cause now any criticism Karl throws at Carmelo is going to be looked at as Karl trying to limit his game. Instead if he came in saying something like "I think you have the potential to be the best player in the league but you have to work on your playmaking and defense to get there" now any criticism takes on a whole new meaning as Carmelo would view it as someone trying to push him to greatness.

By the way, Melo's career proves Karl correct. Talented scorer, horrible defender and teammate, never won when it mattered.

It is what it is.

All it "is" is terrible leadership

That's like telling your kid they ain't shyt then sitting back for years waiting with the " I told you so :umad: " while you're sitting there intentionally not trying to connect and teach them

You job is literally to bring the BEST out of that person

At the time he was cast as Brons peer and even better in some peoples eyes. That said I dont think Karl was being serious. I think it was a misguided attempt at motivation. I think that actually revealed the shortcomings of both men. Karl obviously didnt know how to talk to people and overrated his own self. Like if Phil or Pat says that it might get the desired response. Melo took that shyt to heart but not in the right way. A Kobe or Mike or Bron or Duncan takes that as a challenge and does everything in their power to prove dude wrong and is actually thanking him for it 20 years later.

Detlef Schremp:gucci:?

Ols school coaches really didnt give a damn about greatness:mjlol:

Seems like they only wanted their system ran how they wanted it ran. Who knows if the team wouldve been better if Melo took a Detlef Schremp role. But you still wouldve needed another star complimentary player anyway.

And its not an insult to saying someone didnt have a father. Its an insult to imply they act like a bytch because they dont have one. George was fine up until saying they dont know how to act like men.

“Kenyon and Carmelo carried two big burdens: all that money and no father to show them how to act like a man,”

But if its true its true. I just dont like whos saying it tbh

Good parents have a vested interest in bringing out the best in their children and making them excellent at something. That is almost their sole duty.

Coaches have a self-interest in winning and doing what is best for the team. That can mean getting "the most" out of each player, but it often means tuning roles, dialing certain things back and asking them to contribute in other ways. You know, like, hey, don't worry about scoring as much, we need you to be a better defender. Or, hey, when all you're concerned about is scoring the ball, it slows down the offense.

But going back to the role of parenting, part of being coachable is being used to listening to that sort of feedback. If you're an AAU kid who is used to hearing whatever you want to hear, you're likely to be difficult to coach and none of it will show up until you face the best competition who happens to be talented and coachable.

I saw the tweet in my feed and just thought it was a fake account like that Draymond account and Dunk "Cental" account, but sure enough that Karl one is real :pachaha:
George is on social media like that??

Coby Karl is probably running that account.

It's a message vs messenger thing.

Everyone agrees with what GK is saying but no one wants to hear it from HIM.

No one agrees with George Karl… Detlef and Melo don’t even belong in the same sentence comparably speaking…. MELO>>>>>>>. and it ain’t nowhere near close

Your right, but this is Melo we talking about:wow:

Isnt part of being a good coach building around that type of player, even if it means changing your style? I thought George Karl did a fairly decent job at that. That team wouldve ate in the eastern conference. Seems like maybe personality clashes may have been the main thing holding them back. And Karl was one of the people with a personality problem, not good as a coach
