I'm not saying otherwise.

What are we gaining by shutting down the government?

You realize this votes codifys the dodge cuts right ? You may not though the media hasn't talked about that fact in detail. So if you're voting yes you're voting yes to decrease social security Medicare and firing veterans

What are we gaining by shutting down the government?

What are our other potential options and what are their negatives and positives?

We are gaining a chance to show Americans what we are willing to fight for.

A sizable portion of working class Americans have somehow decided that they are not sure which party has their best interests at heart.

A lot of these Americans don't tune in to politics and never pay attention to the US government, a shutdown is one of the few exceptions to that.

So let them tune in and find out why Republicans, who have the Presidency and both houses of Congress are unable to keep it open.

And why Democrats are unwilling to let them implement an agenda that will end up harming millions if Americans, especially the most vulnerable.

I don't care if this is a fight we end up losing, I just want us to lose it in public.

If he were up for re-election next year, I'd be tempted to say Schumer's toying with his own political future. The Dem base is clearly pissed off and wants a shutdown for good reason. And you say you're going to vote to avoid the pain of a shutdown? Never mind they've already been illegally closing agencies and firing people, so we're basically dealing with a government shutdown and the pain of its effects already.

The claim that a shutdown would allow Trump and Musk even more free rein to do as they please falls flat when you consider they're already doing just that. Why vote to legitimize the illegal bullshyt they've already been doing?

2028 is a ways off, but I'm definitely ready to tell Schumer to beat it so someone more suitable for this political era can represent us instead:camby:
