Newsom was shook over that recall. I believe it was the reason he loosened covid restrictions. I know it's anecdotal, but myself and several other liberals signed the recall petition. I wound up voting against the recall not because I love Newsom, but because Elder was insane. I wouldn’t twist the fact dem voters weren’t stupid enough to let repubs wrest control in a recall with him being liked. A LOT of Democratic Californians don’t care for him/his policies. And he’ll win re-election because there is no dem that appeals to both his supporters and detractors and as is always the game, no one wants to let republicans sneak in a governorHe wasn't close to being recalled and he's the favorite to win a second term.

That very well may be the case. In a dem bastion like Cali there's going to be a lot of diversity amongst the coalition and what they prefer.
But he survived the recall with almost 62% of the vote and just won his primary with 56% of the vote and no one else coming close at all.
My point being, he didn't narrowly escape a recall and his position as California governor is no less safe than DeSantis.
He certainly took it seriously and rightfully so. You don't want another Arnold scenario where you have a governor governing with a minority share of the vote.
The governors of the largest states in the country always stands a chance in national politics.

Where you went to school matters. Credentials matter. Alot. If desantis went to some random state school no one would consider him.l a threat but rather a looney. Ironically, Regan and bush Jr were republicans who care less about credentials than democrats. Newsome vs desantis would not look good for the former.
Hillary would have beat Cruz. He has zero charisma or likeability. Trump branded himself as a populist outsider vs establishment Hillary. Cruz couldn't do that.
