Gary Payton was pretty fukking athletic from what I remember. Had to be to D up MJ
Lateral ability alone doesn't make you a top athlete breh .

He can't jump

He's got no top speed

Barely got a decent first step

His son looks nothing like him and jumps like Shannon brown in his Laker days:wow:

Dude was 6’4 and a rim graze dunker who barely dunked throughout a season even on an up tempo team

Would be shocked if he would do anything over 30 inches at a combine event

The man is telling y’all himself he wasn’t athletic. He was a big, strong guard and was competitive and had great hands.

Below average athlete and wack handle

Big guard with post game and streaky knuckleball jump shot, a high I.Q. player, good dump off passer

In today’s game don’t see how any team centers their offense around him kinda outdated player :manny:

You forgot elite defender :comeon:. The athleticism was there, maybe not hops wise but GP was athletic

Athleticism is about more than jumping. He had quick lateral movements and those long arms. So imo, he was athletic.

True but since he's being compared to his son, this is what stands out; but even if we exclude that, Payton wasn't athletic even in his speed or quickness...

GP wasn’t unathletic for those who never saw him play in his prime. He just wasn’t Russel Westbrook, Ja Morant, Allen Iverson levels of leaping ability and was more of a defensive specialist.

His running mate Shawn Kemp was the leaper

Even Steven Nash was more athletic than Payton

God damn y’all sure do love romanticizing the past

He wasn’t bouncy or fast or quick or have elite body control in a combine he would be one of the least athletic guards in the game today I compare him to Jrue but Jrue is probably a bit more athletic

He also struggled against small and shifty guards so how quick was he laterally. He also took a ton of gambles. His defense was about his footwork, quick hands and instincts, trash talking/mean streak, and his size and wingspan.

Sounds like GP is trying to tell us something because GPII looks nothing like him. :hubie:

And why is so light skinned? I thought his mom was white. Was she creepin with Detlef Schrempf?
