This show has been trying to present Rhaenyra as being the quintessential irresponsible and sheltered royal child this entire time, and presenting her and Alicent as each other's equal opposites. The oncoming conflict is meant to be as much about the tragedy of their ruined friendship as it is Viserys completely fumbling his succession and other political relationships.

The whole point of that scene of Daemon trying trying to fukk Rhaenyra being intercut with her having to go fukk Viserys when he ordered her up like a room service quesadilla was to drive home the very different realities they live. The show staff even directly said that while Alicent is doing her duty as queen, Rhaenyra is out there figuring out she can fukk for pleasure.

Otto telling her that she needs to look out for the future of Aegon on his way out just piled right on top of her already brewing negativity toward her.

And besides, characters having multiple motivations isn't necessarily anything new to Game of Thrones or entertainment in general.

I never specifically called out Cole. I meant in general. She has an issue with the fact that she was out there fukking ANYONE when she shouldn't have. Her lying about it and getting her father caught up works in conjunction with that. It's one of those classic cases of your woman being mad at you, and saying "It's not just one thing" when you finally discuss why.

When Alicent confronts Rhaenyra the following morning after she overheard Otto making the accusation to the king, one of the first things she says is that Rhaenyra should know better than to even put herself in a position to even have her chastity questioned, and even as Rhaenyra explains that she didn't fukk Daemon, she still thinks she was moving way too reckless.

Until Larys snitches about the tea, she seems more sad than anything, but at that point is sure that she fukked SOMEONE. Cole's dumb ass just served everything up on a platter for her. Not only is she out here fukking like a commoner, but she also lied to her face about it, got her father fired, AND the topper is that she's basically throwing it in her face by fukking the one person that is almost guaranteed to be around her at all times. She could've easily handled all this in a different manner, but all of that compiled made her say fukk it, and follow her father's advice to go into business for herself.
