There is. According to you, a black person and a white person can have a white child. Or vice-versa. If that's the case, you either have a pointlessly narrow definition of being biracial vs. black/white or your stance is inconsistent

And how are we not talking about "purity"? This whole topic is about whether biracial/mixed people should be considered "black", never mind what those individuals actually see themselves as and how society sees them

:pachaha:

You know what, I'll bite. What is the above supposed to even mean?
And your stance is so hopelessly confused and inconsistent and you don't even realize it. Which I find pretty entertaining :troll:

Good, I love people who criticize.
What is your stance/truth? :sas2:

It's impossible to find a cut off point...that's why blackness is based on cultural and ethnic/political identity not ancestry.
Blackness is ancestry...do you think eminem is considered black cause he raps? It is not impossible to determine blackness....that's a very lazy response.

Those that are black...are those who have african ancestry. If you know at what point someone is white then you know at one point someone is black.

Nobody thinks that baby is white

Paula Patton is HALF WHITE, she's what we would call a mixed person, the child is majority white, so it's white, it was born white

Obama is half white but he's darker than some black americans who have two BLACK PARENTS he was born black, the black gene was more dominant with him

Rashida Jones is white even though her father is black, just because the black gene is dominant and the white is recessive doesn't mean 100% of the time the child will come out as black

Anybody with eyes can see if somebody is white or black

the bigger question should be asked is how did the kid get blonde hair when robin thicke nor his father has blonde hair

Race is a social classification that isn't based on science or genetics. Why can't you understand that? You're a fukking idiot, that's why.

Your personal opinion of what they are doesn't mean anything. They're classified, seen, and treated as black in the world that we live in. That's all race is, how people classify and treat you based on the color of your skin(phenotypical traits).

Tone aside, this is pretty close to my stance. While you and others are using these arbitrary cut offs for who's "black" versus "biracial" or "mixed", I recognize that all three of those categories aren't based on some hard and fast logical rules based on science or genetics. Instead, they're products of the society that uses these classifications.

A biracial person decides they identify as biracial and not black? I've got no issue with that whatsoever. They're free to identify as they please (within reason). Another sees themselves as black because that's how they grew and that's what everyone else generally sees them and treats them as. I've got no issue with that either.

Because "black" isn't some hard and fast biological category. It's a social construction. Same as "white" and for that matter, "biracial" and "mixed"

Well my view is actually the 50% one when it comes to race and ancestry.

You asked me if they are 53% black does that make them black? I say yes but the closer they are to 50% the more likely i am to stress that they are part black.

this is ridiculous

the child could have blonde hair due to a throwback gene

and rashida's father is mixed.

Paula Patton's mother is blonde so that will explain it, throwback genes don't show up that strong

Quincy Jones is black, what are you talking about

and it wouldn't matter, Quincy Jones has black kids who are mixed, Rashida just came out white his genes weren't as dominant within her like it was his other children, why can't you understand that

@Snake Puppy dipped after this :wow: in fact, all of the one drop rulers avoided this.

and for the fourth time, you DONT have a problem with the current way races are classified. you would NOT change the one drop rule, even if you could. is that true, yes or no.

I wasn't going to address this (not a "one drop ruler" for one thing), but I will say given the power, I'd do away with the concept of "race" period. Threads like this show just why it's so flawed a concept

you'd have to do away with it completely, to the point where we'd all looked the same. people would discriminate based on hair and eye color if that were the only options left.
