The people who make the soccer posts are normally overseas and they use the european odds instead of american. European odds are actually simpler, you just multiply the number by how much you wanna bet to see how much you'll win. So in European odds 1.7 is the same as -140 or $100 wins 140. Actually i might have fukked that up

Steam just means he's chasing "steam"/reverse line moves. It means you're on the side with the sharps.
For example, there was a lot of steam on the Seahawks game yesterday. There's a lot of reasons for line moves though. Sometimes sharps place a lot of money on a side they don't intend to play, but they do it to move the line to a number that's in their favor. Other times it's an indication that "smart" money was placed on the side opposite to the public.
The theory is if you chase steam, you're betting on the same side as the "wise guys" aka sharps who are supposed to know more than anybody else in the room.
A lot of sharps were actually heavy on the over yesterday. I was dumb enough to bet with a lot of other squares on the Saints ATS despite the apparent steam move because the number climbed in favor of the saints despite more people being on them
