engineering is already a mixed bag. there are lots of unemployed and temporarily employed STEM workers no matter what people online keep trying to say.
It's a mixed bag if you don't control for certain factors. If you just mean engineering graduates in general, then you are necessarily including people who graduate with below a 3.0 GPA and with no internship experience. Those people will definitely find it harder to get a job (but still doable). Those with a 3.0+ and at least a summer of internship will have no problem finding a job.

why should i control for that? these people exist, and if we try to tell more students to major in STEM because liberal arts is trash then the ranks of those people you are controlling for will surely increase and then we will be right back where we are.

not only that, but even among those with good GPAs and internships, the simple fact of supply will devalue them.

All Im saying is that the college degree, regardless of major, is losing value and even STEM majors suffer a lot of mental setbacks. We are human beings, not machines that are soul-less. Very few people are cut for that naturally and our economy would suffer if everyone did ONE kind of job. Diversity makes the American Economy better than just work all damn day.

I'm surprised that college students are that docile. I would be running up and beating the shyt outta these scam ass teachers and administrators for lying :pacspit:
In South Africa, I used to live close to a university, and every time the administration tried to raise tuition, the students will go on strike...When I moved to Canada, and started going to university, I was surprised at how much students complain but don't do shyt....

What's the point of complaining of about increasing tuition and decreasing career security, if you are always going to pay....?

In 2014, it isn't what you know, it's who you know. I am a beneficiary of this same system because of the University I attended and the contacts I made all throughout college and my travels abroad. Close to graduation I was able to tap into my network and land a job. But I recognize that this isn't the reality for alot of us (especially African Americans). If I didn't go to college and had the experiences that I had, then I would have probably been in the same boat as other people. That's why I help other brothers and sisters when I can gain employment when they contact me for job inquiries.

Americans are too weak to fight back anymore. As long as we have our sex, our weed, out alcohol, and our TVs on stupid, no one will question shyt or fight back against the powers that be.

I think you're going too far with that. What you're saying isn't realistic. It ignores the fact that capital is required to do so, and if you're thinking on a larger scale, go look at the biographies of start-up company execs, both young and old.

people don't realize banks are going to want to see 20% cash down of the loan amount before they even think about lending for start ups.

These Banks will have to make shyt easier because there isn't much money circulating around for the working class.

If you look at the latest batch of start-ups, none of them come from a working class background. A trend that I ensure you will continue...

That is sad in itself. It keeps the income gap wider and wider than it should be...

Using your logic, people shouldn't get into any job market period, because the supply will eventually devalue them. Even though we have a shortage of nurses and doctors, we shouldn't tell people to go into it because the supply will devalue them. EVERY market of employment carries the risk of being saturated. So what are you supposed to tell people?

When the supply actually IS more than the demand, THEN we can tell people to move on to other things. Because think about it, what is the alternative?

Besides that, even when the supply of engineers exceeds the demand, it STILL might make sense to go into engineering because a huge bulk of that supply consists of foreigners. I'm about to transfer to a university in the area and there's a facebook page for the incoming class for each major. In the computer engineering department, literally 90% of the class is indian or asian.

Employers are going to value American employees over Indian ones simply because of the cultural barrier, and no one wants to see their office fill up with a bunch of foreigners. I have this one white friend who applied to be an adjunct professor at a community college. The head of the department gave him the job pretty quick and straight up said a big reason why he was hired was because he was one of the only american applicants for the job.
