Dion Waiters indicated Sunday he is willing to give the Miami Heat a hometown discount when it comes to his impending free agency. The question, of course, is the degree of the largesse. Appearing on WSVN’s 7 Sports Xtra, Waiters said he would be willing to make an accommodation with the team that helped revive his career, something he indicated at season’s end and then during a recent appearance on ESPN. “It depends,” he said Sunday. “Yeah, I would, though. But, like I said, it depends, just being the right thing, at the right time. It’s just got to be right. It’s got to be equal.”

^ we must have been thinking the same thing

RE: waiters, This is just another one of the little perks that comes with competiting. You think any of these guys are sitting around talking about being willing to take a little less for a 15 win team that tanked the season?

I don't really care either way since I'm on the post 2020 wave, but we'll see what he says if he ends up not being an early priority.

All this shyt is a game. He wants an early offer, I suspect we'll go shopping around again.

I'd love to keep Johnson because he'll flourish in Spo's system but am still torn about Waiters. Depending on the price of course. We have some questionable cap clogging contracts already (TJ and Dragiç to some degree).

And I'll admit I missed the part of the season when he (Waiters) went on a tear.:yeshrug:
Guess I need you YouTube his 2017 highlights

But question, would you guys be open to moving Dragiç and handing TJ the starting role if a decent deal presented itself for Dragiç? Guess what I'm asking is do we still wanna move Dragiç like some did at the beginning of last season?

I'm not even hyped to bring him back, but it's clear Waiters wants to stay. All he talks about is wanting to resigning, Pat bout to get both JJ and Dion for the low if he goes after them :ld:

The only way you trade Dragic is if you go full rebuild. You're not going to find a player like Dragic for the money he's currently making.

I was Waiters biggest hater but his biggest help to the team was creating his own shot in breakdown situations, his ability to consistently oebetrate, and his defense mixed with that.

Since he's not asked to be a primary playmaker with guys like Dragic and JJ on the field, he has a lot less pressure for playmaking and can focus on driving/kicking.

Nah breh, our offense was abysmal whenever TJ was asked to run the point. I'm not even sure what kind of deal I'd be entertaining for Dragic at this point, in today's market his contract is a bargain, we're paying under 20 mil for 20 & 6. It'd have to be a top 6-7 pick for me to think about it.

More versatile. Bigs like him that can handle, pass, defend and get to the rim like he does are more valuable than a combo guard that has been mostly terrible his whole career.
I dont disagree with the rational on JJ, but if Waiters has truly turned a corner in our system doesn't a known commodity at the 2 guard become a bit more valuable, especially when TJ and Rich haven't proven that they can shoulder the load?

Not in my eyes. At his peak, Waiters will average 16-17 ppg on mediocre efficiency but might drop 30 every once in a while or win you a game or two. Not somebody I want to give near max money too. At best he will put up a Chicago Wade season.
