QUEENS NY

I think a lot on the left are really underestimating the threat Desantis is in 2024. I work in a very Republican environment, they all know and like Desantis, they look at him like a folk hero with how he handled Covid. A lot of the voters in the right aren't looking at it as Trump vs Desantis, they're looking at Desantis as the natural evolution of MAGA. The only issue might be is that Trump also got a lot of voters that never vote to vote for him, Desantis doesn't inspire that.

That's fukking disgusting
They're fukking lying. This is a smear in the same way they smeared CRT. This has nothing to do with what they're claiming. The FL standard is a disreputable source. Same with the people in those tweets.

The Florida Standard Right Biased based on editorial positions that routinely favor the right. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to the use of poor sources, lack of transparency, and failed fact checks.

And I think some on the left are prematurely scared of an untested entity who hasn't faced national scrutiny yet.

He's a one trick pony who's overdoing the anti woke shyt, that only got elected the first time because he was kissing up to Trump, and who seems to lack charisma and people skills.

Let's see how how well he can withstand how bright the spotlight gets once a candidate declares for presidency. He wouldnt be the first Republican hope who withered in the national spotlight (Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, Rudy Giuliani, etc).

That’s a relic of the past. Nowadays major candidates who raise $1B pick and choose where to interview. Candidates can run entire campaigns with free media.

Who has actually won a presidential race by using the strategy you just described?

I would argue Trump in 2016. Studies reported him receiving up to $6,000,000,000 in free media. He spent about half of what Clinton spent in traditional advertising ($398M vs $766M). Same happened in 2020.

This is not true, Trump had plenty of interviews with mainstream media and attended debates hosted by mainstream media.

The fact that you are admitting that he spent close to $400 million on traditional advertising contradicts your point.

The strategy that you are pointing out might work for some fringe house candidate in a dark purple or red district, it will not work for someone who has to run state-wide, let alone win multiple statewide elections (Presidential).

is this true?
No, it's not true. Why are people treating DeSantis (and his circle) like they're honest actors? The "it's teaching queer theory" bullshyt has Chris Rufo's fingerprints all over it. The sad thing is, they will succeed with this smear, because the public-at-large are extremely susceptible to right-wing smear campaigns.

Remember, Rufo is one of his closest allies, and they did the same thing with CRT.

Rufo has been unparalleled in fanning public education culture wars, whipping up anger first against critical race theory and then against teaching on L.G.B.T.Q. issues. This year, he is turning his attention to diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and, with his colleagues at the Manhattan Institute, will soon unveil model legislation to abolish such programs at state schools. In New College, he sees a chance to create a new type of educational institution to replace those he’s trying to destroy. When we spoke, he compared his plans to Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter.

I don't really care about the speculation, I`m asking has someone specifically seen "Queer" points as being in the curriculum. Abolishing the Police (assuming that's in the Curriculum), isn't "Queer", but was a point mentioned, that's why I`m confused.

1. True but that's because they treated him like an entertainer. If he was getting really grilled by actual journalists who knew their shyt, he wouldn't have been as available.

2. $400M in not much nowadays for a major presidential campaign. Our governor has spent that in two races (IL). Look at the last couple of elections in Georgia. They're spending almost that amount for a Senate seat in a state with a population of 11 million.

3. DeSantis used this very strategy during his reelection. Refused interviews/appearances from media except for Fox news and other right wing outlets. In 2018 he said he would do 5 debates. He only agreed to one debate in 2022. Refuses to give access to "traditional" media outlets. And he ended up winning by 20%.

The stuff you're talking about was relevant when people had trust in the media. Nowadays it's probably one of the least admired institutions in the country.

Dems are in for a rude awakening if they sleep on Desantis. I already know he’s winning the nomination if he runs :yeshrug:
