The focus on personal and familial problems is a way of evading responsibility.

"Y'all just need to get married and build strong families and then we won't have to do the hard work of political organizing and reforming institutions and all that boring stuff." That's the whole argument in a nutshell.

Yes more women attend college. That does not lead to any of the conclusions you make with that info.

Same as the "out of wedlock" rate exists, but it does not prove any of the narratives surrounding "the black family structure"

damn, that downward mobility one is depressing. something must be rotten in the culture if middle class kids aren't building on the small gains their parents worked so hard to achieve. other minority groups are building on the previous generation and we're falling behind our parents. unless your parents are rich or even upper middle class, you should be doing better than them. that's the point of this, give our children a better life so that they can have advantages we didn't and build on that. maybe they find something appealing in the culture of poverty that they want a piece of that

I've said this before. Most of our parents in the middle class got on at auto plants, steel mills, factory labor. Those jobs are mostly gone

how they got there is one thing, but that should have meant better neighborhoods (whether mixed or with a majority of other striving black folks), school districts for their kids and as a result better college prep, etc. however your parents got into the middle class, if you didn't take advantage of that middle class existence and strive for something better then you will suffer. and certain behavior regardless of race will also cause real financial pain: out of wedlock childbirth and god help you if you have multiple baby mamas.

with that old saying about some rich kid being born on 3rd base and thinking he hit a triple. well to continue the baseball analogy: if you're upper middle class you're born on 2nd base, middle class on first base, lower middle you're in the batter's box with a chance to take a swing, lower class you're in the dugout hoping for a chance to take a swing. so i guess those who were born on first base and have moved down to the batter's box or worse the dugout, were caught stealing.
