There was a happy medium they could have hit with updated graphics, but not changing the game so much that it alienates long time fans.

We’ve seen this with games like Resident Evil, Demon souls, System shock, etc.

Square decided to milk this shyt and reach for extra fans and money at the detriment of long time fans hooky they’d come along for nostalgia, but it seems they have failed at truly capturing either group.
Its a god damn sequel. The cry babies can just do that cry and bytch and moan about it but SE aren’t their parents so they don’t have to tend to them and they can keep on providing the trilogy that us others appreciate and love.
:camby: with them purist fukks they can go play the fukking Original or shut the fukk up

They called it a “remake”

And 95% of the story is the same so it ain’t a real sequel either.

A real sequel woulda been dope.

A faithful remake woulda been dope.

They playing the middle and they are stuck with mid results :manny:

Yeah they called it a Remake not a remaster. A Remake and it is a sequel no matter how much you want to try to spin it
Either accept it or keep on crying about it.
Im still going to enjoy this gift of the goddess :wow:

REmake, REmake 2, and REmake 4 are far better remakes.

It can’t be a “sequel” and an “expansion of the OG story” at the same time.

Do you know what words mean :usure:
It doesn’t matter throw all meanings of the things u once knew when it comes to this
This is a gift of the goddess :blessed:

fool I had 50 hours in Rebirth the week it released.
Game of a generation my ass. shyt released right in the middle of BG3 doing innovative things like they were going out of style and DD2 trying to reinvent the whole JRPG wheel, for better or worse.

Rebirth was flawless execution of a concept that had already been well-worn and easily defined. It has no reactivity in it - it doesn't even take into account what you did in Remake. It is a beautiful, excellent continuation of Remake. But it isn't the game of the generation. It isn't even the most revolutionary Final Fantasy game this generation. It isn't the game of the last 12 months. It was very good. And deserves accolades for the advancement of the FF7 formula.

Isn't the best RPG recently
Isn't the best open world recently
Doesn't have the best story recently
Doesn't even look the best of recent games.

Please. Tell me how and where it manages to excel enough to have other games thrown in the bushes. Please. Elucidate me.

It doesn't need to be revolutionary. What's good about it is the core gameplay -- fast and addictive combat combined with the classic JRPG elements we all grew up with and loved. Plus, tack on a more fleshed out story and character arcs, and improved side content from the original, and you're talking about a legendary package. Plenty people will list FF7 as they're favorite game of all time, so as long as they can make the core gameplay as good or better, then it really doesn't have to reinvent the wheel.

Maybe game of a generation is a bit of hyperbole, but I stand by my OP in that it will go down as one of the best games when people look back.

(ONLY) the first part is called Remake because Sephiroth is REMAKING the OG events according to knowledge he gained after Cloud whooped him for the third time (aka Advent Children).

That's why the second game isn't "Remake" anymore, but REBURF.

They played with the wording, for sure - but it works in the story they're trying to tell. Not a one to one remake of the OG game, but the antagonist (and arguably one of the protagonists in future Aerith) battling to un/re/de-make the original story.
