I don't know how to take this

I know A lot of Cubans are happy today

Castro did prison ,kill a lot of people just for trying to better their lives. So it ain't all gravy , even now I ain't like blacks are not discriminated against in Cuba . So I :yeshrug:

Let's not act like Castro was an angel because he WAS NOT. However, he did his best like Chavez in Venezuela to help his people. Also, Castro set up programs like having POC to go to medical school for free. RIP to Castro and I know many Miami Cubans hate him. It was bad during that time. Still, I remember when they had the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Castro did his best to protect Cuba & his people from American imperialism and it worked.

Basically, in my area (Hampton Roads) I have came across a few Cubans. They are cool people and I worked with one before.

It's fruitless. They've been brainwashed from leftist media outlets and idiot celebrities. Most of these fool never meet a Cuban in their live that has first hand knowledge of Castro

I've had two sisters who went to school there during castros reign as well as friends.(from 99-06). My girl is currently there schooling.

I've been there several times. I've spoken to the students there attending school from all over the Caribbean and Africa and South America as well as residents living there old and young. So have I been brainwashed also? Spare me your gross generalizations.

I don't think anyone is saying the man was a saint. But this narrative that he was all bad is also just as disingenuous.

Yup.

He helped Haiti out.

My father always talked about the good Cuban relations with Haiti. A lot of Haitians are over there too.

Also took in orphans from Ethiopia and gave them housing, education, and free health care.

What? I'm suppose to kiss his ass because of health care/education? Plenty of other countries have that and didn't resort to jailing/murdering dissidents or keeping his entire nation in economic depression. Miss me with the Africa ventures either. Nothing but one of SU proxies in a pissing match with America. He didn't care about blacks like any other authoritarian. He's a POS no different then Mao, Stalin, or any other commie central planning dictator. You can mention any protected shielded medical student or brainwashed national you want. fukk Castro. And fukk the failed experiment of socialism.

There was excuse to hold on to power especially when you live next to a super power that is looking for every opportunity to dominate you. That was the same formula Chairman Mao used in China - look at how prosperous China is today.

Certain countries need authoritarian ideology for a particular period to thrive. With Cuba, now that the embargo has been lifted and the legacy of Castro has bridged the gap between the elites who were white and the serfs who were blacks, prosperity would be distributed evenly, if they decide to open up a bit to controlled capitalism.

He might've had reason to hold onto the power since the US was trying to overthrow the country for years, but that does not excuse the many executions and imprisonments of Cubans who did nothing wrong. I support the man's ideals all the way but he was not a saint and there's nothing wrong with admitting that.

My sister got her medical degree from Cuba and my girl is currently there studying.

As a matter of fact I just came back from Cuba this week.
Do you think this will continue? A good friend of mine was/is seriously considering going to school in Cuba. He already speaks Spanish
