Epstein-arrested.jpg

OK, now you know things are out of control in Ferguson, Missouri: according to several sources, Hedy Epstein, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor, was one of eight protesters picked up by police Monday night, when they demonstrated against Governor Jay Nixon’s decision to throw National Guard troops into the already crazed city.

Egypt urges US to show restraint

Egypt's government has called on US authorities to show restraint against protesters in Ferguson, Missouri.

It said it was "closely following the escalation of protests" after the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman on 9 August.

The statement echoes US President Barack Obama's comments during Egypt's crackdown on protesters in 2013.

Correspondents say the criticism is unusual since Egypt gets about $1.5bn (£1bn) in aid from the US every year.

President Obama is under increasing pressure to bring an end to the violent scenes in the St Louis suburb.

It is now 10 days since Michael Brown's death, which sparked mass demonstrations.

Jay Nixon, the governor of Missouri, has ordered the National Guard to support police operations, but violence flared again on Monday night, with law enforcement officers arresting 31 people

The statement from Egypt's foreign ministry followed a similar call from United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon, who called on Missouri police to abide by "US and international standards".

Iran added its voice to the criticism, with Majid Takht-Ravanchi, the deputy foreign minister for European and American Affairs, saying the unrest was a sign of "the phenomenon of racism" in the West.

Meanwhile Chinese state news agency Xinhua said that despite the US playing the role of an international human rights defender, the clashes showed "there is still much room for improvement at home".

"Obviously, what the United States needs to do is to concentrate on solving its own problems rather than always pointing fingers at others," the Xinhua editorial added.

I work in an industry that we carry handguns. You would be BAFFLED at how inaccurate most people are with a handgun (ex military people im referring to). Its a combination of a few things...a) any experienced handgun shooters in here know how difficult it is to be proficient beyond 15 yards b) a lot of these guys are just not good shots....almost like shooting threes...u can teach all u want, but u either have that touch or you don't

u add in stress to the situation, and its a mess...im sure this shooting was closer, but with the stress its tough to aim right
This. Dudes acting like they would be knee-capping dudes from 100 meters.

a gun holder knows they're gonna come out on top in a situation. after 1 or 2 shots are fired they should know to fall back and assess the situation. you gotta have no respect of LIFE to unload all those bullets on someone..

we don't know how many bullets were fired total and probably never will.

a whole city is tore up because of that cops actions..

I salute you for posting because that is something that hasn't been mentioned enough on this forum at least, being how much of a role fear and stress play in the use of deadly force. I try to be fair to both cops and my own. Truth be told, I don't envy cops, would not want their job at all. We're all too quick to buy into the narrative that the pigs are itching to unload a clip, but that's not fair. Those rogues are out there, but I imagine they're a minority compared to the mistrained and average inexperienced joe just trying to make it through the day. For that average joe, fear, stress, testosterone, etc. has got to be a trip.

Only difference is when cops mess up, they are more likely to get away scott free than the average joe.
When cops are held responsible for their actions or inactions like average joes, and give the public transparency in the process of filing complaints and righting wrongs like average joes, then the 'rogues' can be just that, rogues. Until that day... folks will continue to protest/riot. There's a reason cops are commonly referred to as a gang, here's reason one.

CNN’s Don Lemon: National Guard Soldier Used N-Word In Ferguson (VIDEO)
by Keith Nelson Jr (@JusAire) August 20th, 2014 @ 12:28pm

  • (AllHipHop News) Racism still alive and they aren’t even concealing it. During a segment on CNN last night (August 19th), journalist Don Lemon shared a story from one of the show’s producer about a soldier of the national guard using a racist epitaphs in Ferguson, M.O.

In less than a week since Michael Brown’s controversial killing last Saturday (August 16th) and the subsequent demonstrations, Ferguson, M.O. has experienced an influx of National Guard officers as well as local law enforcement. Lemon recounted a story from one of his producers about racist remarks made by one of those National Guard soldiers:

I’m just going to be honest with you. Last night, one of my producers said that they — I won’t say if it’s a he or she, because I don’t want to give anyone away — said they came in contact with one of the members of the National Guard and that they said, ‘You want to get out of here because you’re white, because these n-words, you never know what they’re going to do.’ True story. I kid you not. 2014, a member of the National Guard. And my producer doesn’t lie. It is a true story.

Days earlier, Lemon was forcibly moved by a Ferguson police officer during a live broadcast on CNN. During the broadcast, in which Lemon is amongst many protestors, he explains how even the right to peaceful protest is being compromised by the police:

You see why people are so upset here. We’ve been here all day, they moved us here and told us this is our location. They’re doing the same thing to the people. We’re on national television, so imagine what they’re doing to people who you don’t see on national TV. Who don’t have a voice like we do.
