Economics should be stem
How much does an 18 year old crew member get paid?
The pay rate for an 18 year old Crew Memeber ranges from £5.00 to £6.05 per hour in our company owned restaurants.

and £5.00 = like $7.59

http://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/ukhome/w...does-an-18-year-old-crew-member-get-paid.html

  • [*]The first column lets us compare the hourly wage for a McDonald’s crew member among different countries and regions.
[*]The second column tells us each nation’s or region’s multiple of the US wage.
[*]The last two columns convey purchasing power. With BMPH equaling McWage divided by the Big Mac price, you can see that an hour of work will buy almost 2 1/2 Big Macs in the US but only close to one third of a burger in India.

See chart. That's why I said majority of countries, look at west europe as a whole.

It's not like $10 minimum wages hasn't been done before. Look at SF, a city that has a lower cost of living than NY but still decides to raise their minimum wage.

yeah but it's a business not a charity. is a living wage something a 15 year old can do? they're not going to sit there and pay a single mother of 3 more than a 15 year old out of charity. these wages are set by the market.

is mcdonalds supposed to sit there and figure out what each of their 500k employees needs to live off of? they're not going to pay surpluses for no reason.

If they're working 40 hour weeks, perhaps? Yes?

I never made an argument for your other silly points

It can easily be done on the regional level if you want to split hairs.

I love how you people are using words like "surplus" and placing them in the lowest tier possible automatically and looking at this shyt as a tiered platform across the entire fukking country without doing the math.

I've had plenty of conversations about McDonald's and low wage workers. You guys are simply wrong and have no idea how many of you depend on those people. On top of that, you simply can't look at a job like McDonald's and say "Oh, they are not worth $10+ an hour" or whatever it is you people think is just pay for their work, you have to look at their living conditions and unfortunately for you that means breaking it down into regions. I can't even imagine what people making minimum wage in a place like New York are living and nobody working 40+ hours a week should be subject to that kind of stress just trying to make a living for themselves. That shyt should be illegal out in NY/NJ/CA and all other major cities with a higher cost of living.

Regardless if you view the job as something a 15 year old can do. The reality of it is that this country does not have enough jobs for the inhabitants and when that happens the government SHOULD step in and have a say about it. Unfortunately this country is slow and ass backwards on MOST issues so in a sense you guys ARE RIGHT. The majority living out there are putting those workers in that category regardless of the possible ramifications in the community and the fact that some might have to turn into alternative methods to bring money in just to get by

It might not be McDonald's or Burger King for people here, but the same applies to Dominos, Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, or any other low wage worker that delivers shyt you want at a price you can buy without blinking.

A job a 15 year old can do. :heh: It's crazy but at one time they literally had 100s of school bus drivers that were between 15 and 17 in the Carolinas. You'd be surprised what a 15 year old can do. I'd say 50% of jobs could be performed by a 15 year old, particularly office jobs. So the Coli Capitalists need to dead that line of thinking right now.

i don't get this line of thinking.people shouldn't make careers out of something you have a bunch of high school kids willing to do at minimum wage.

and blame your congressman not mcdonalds or starbucks.

well to your point directly since mcdonalds has such a bullet proof business plan and they all make millions of dollars even in small towns, why don't we all open one?

fukk that- Dunkin Donuts is where its at. There could be a nuclear meltdown taking place and there'd still be at least an 8 person deep line at the one down the street from me.

"why don't we all open one", results in this?

obviously that was an extreme example to point out that not every mcdonalds is rolling in millions of dollars like you were saying.

and theoretically every business should offer higher wages over them minimum to keep their employees and not have as much turnover.

i'm just pointing out how the world works. not how it exists in some aaron sorkin liberal fantasy land. we should be blaming congress not mcdonalds like the other guy said.

Just speaking from what I know.

Unless they feel like paying higher unemployment rates they might want to and training people all the time etc etc
The free hand of the market :heh:

I'll blame both and lobbyists and the pay to play nature of our government top to bottom

15 bucks an hr. Then watch the price of everything go up.

$8 for a cup of coffee, $7 for a burger. Shoot even if these folks were paying $800 a month for rent that would go up to like $1400 a month.

This wouldn't do anything but raise the price of everything else............

I know, things only go up in price if wages go up.
