People do know that McDonalds are forced to pay livable wages outside U.S. right? The majority of countries in Europe that have McDonalds restaurants force the company to pay wages that equal the cost of living and nothing less and the franchise continues to build several restaurants in these places.
people in here arguing that this will ruin the company

the problem is you're not looking at the franchise structure they run. you look at McDonald's balance sheet and go, "they made billions of dollars" its not like that for your local franchise mcdonalds though.
I bet some of these franchisees would shut down if they had to double wages.

The problem is that YOU ARE not looking at the government structure allowing these companies to minimize their operational cost by paying the lowest amount possible to their employees. Laws are set up to protect citizens from being targeted by these multi-billionaire businesses ever doing this to them. The franchise structure in America is the same way as the structure in Europe, the only thing in their way is what they are allowed to do. If the national minimum wage is raised than states are forced to raise their wages in similar fashion hence, McDonalds have to pay liveable wages. It is as easy as it sounds.
"They made billions of dollars", yes and how? By setting up a franchise business model that allow restaurants to be run by local, regional, and national managers since it is more efficient. Has nothing to do with their responsibility or the government's obligation to allow THEIR citizens to have a livable wage.
