Something is odd about Melo not reupping with the Knicks at this point

Im leaning more to what Stephen A said about Melo holding out with the hopes Bosh will leave Miami and open a spot for him though
big 3 going back to Miami. They never renounced their cap-holds so they aint have 55 million in cap space. We still in it.

Turned off by what was taken as a "low-ball" offer from the Indiana Pacers , Lance Stephenson has begun to explore the free agent market, according to sources of ESPN's Chris Broussard.

Indiana offered their young guard a five-year, $44 million deal to re-sign with the franchise that drafted him 40th overall in 2010, but Stephenson has options if he believes he can get more elsewhere. The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks have showed interest in signing the 23-year-old guard but those teams have other free agents prioritized ahead of him.

His agent has 'reportedly' said they're looking to get $12m. If he ain't willing to settle for $9m with Indiana, a team will probably pay well above that to lure him away. He'll end up going to the highest bidder, once this Melo/Bron situation resolves itself. Or he may play hardball with Indiana to up their offer.

No Takers in Chicago?

..There is no question the Chicago Bulls offer the proper platform for any superstar looking to chase his championship dreams. The organization has a rich title-winning history (the Michael Jordan era remains fresh in the minds of many). There is a resident superstar, albeit one who is coming off two straight seasons of significant injury issues, in Derrick Rose. There is already an elite rim protector and defensive backbone in KIA Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah. And there is a coaching savant in charge in Tom Thibodeau.
...
Why is it so hard for the Bulls to snag one of these available superstars?

Is it the trepidation about what Rose will be like in his latest comeback, the worry that his MVP days are over and perhaps he’ll be merely a good but not great player? Rose’s future is easily the most pressing issue for any superstar considering the Bulls. The Bulls couldn’t get over the hump when he was healthy, so there is no guarantee they’ll be able to do so now.

Maybe the prospect of playing for a grinder like Thibodeau, who is relentless in his approach to everything from practice to the postgame messages he delivers to the media, isn’t as attractive to the superstar crowd as it is to blue-collar studs like Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler and others.

And even though we are two full NBA generations removed from the Jordan era, elite stars like Anthony and James have to wrestle with the vast shadow cast by the player considered by most to be the greatest that’s ever played. The prospect of trying to live up to his legend, in the same jersey, is added pressure no one needs.
...

The challenge for today’s stars, however, is much more about Rose than the ghosts of Jordan, Scottie Pippen or even former Bulls general manager Jerry Krause, whose reputation hurt the Bulls with big-time free agents for years after he was gone.
...
Having grown up in a previous era of the league, I can appreciate Rose’s “we’ll win with or without you” approach.

But it’s become clear to me that perhaps the biggest impediment to the Bulls attracting another superstar is the superstar already in place.

YOU MUST DONT KNOW HOW THESE GUYS EGOS WORK...

THE PACERS OFFERED HIM 8.8 AND HE FELT DISRESPECTED...
HE WOULD TAKE 10 FROM THE DIVISION RIVAL OUT OF SPITE.

BEN GORDON DID THE SAME shyt...
ENDED UP GOING TO DETROIT FOR ABOUT 5 MILLION MORE THAN THE BULLS OFFERED.

THE MAN TOLD THE BULLS 10 MILL.
THATS ALL THAT MATTERS.

Breh, if he's leaving, he's going to want to get paid. You really think he's gonna take $10m from a d/rival if the Hornets, Suns or Lakers offer him $12/13m on his first REAL deal? No chance. His agent just setting a wide catch net, to attract interest.

:heh: at him taking anything but the highest offer just to roll the Pacers.

Ray Allen just took half the dough to go to the heat to spite the celtics and to beat the hell out of them for trying to trade them

I'm not saying it doesn't. But obviously you missed where I said this will be his first real contract. He's not taking a pay cut to spite Indiana. Allen had already made over $170m before he left Boston, where Lance has only made $3m - you can't compare the two.

Interesting opinion from ESPN radio...the Bulls are after Melo because of Michael Reinsdorf. They say they wouldn't have gone after Melo in 2010.

A lot more interesting stuff from Mark Heisler(LA NBA HOF Writer) about the Bulls organization which deserves its own thread and probably will explode if Melo doesn't sign with the Bulls.
