Price em accordingly then :yeshrug: let the cream rise to the top. I already paid 70 for TLOU2 anyway. Paid 80 for RDR2 then another 60 for PC :russ: I don't mind paying a fair retail price, they just better not expect me to spend anymore than that in the game

no game is worth the price of the original Zelda on nes at $90.00.
the problem is people who never left the house to play at the arcade.
so they think they can make videogames into casino's and video games are not casinos.
pay to play and computer gaming have ruined video games.
that is the issue.

Yeah it does.

One because resources are limited. You spend a bunch of time/money/processing power on graphics and cinematics you have less left over for other things.

Also it’s dev philosophy.

what looks the most “cinematic” is almost never the best design choice from a gameplay standpoint.

It’s not a coincidence that games that are considered to have best gameplay are usually not also considered to be “cinematic”

MGSV is one of the few examples of almost doing both, but the “cinematic” aspersions really kinda hurt the gameplay in the long run.

No it doesn't. We're now at the point that some clowns are calling anything with cutscenes "cinematic".

People call Spiderman and HZD "cinematic" when they are blatant open world games.

It's corny.

Because you can see/feel the dev priorities while playing.

The camera placement in HZD is solely for cinematic reasons at the detriment of gameplay. The characters animations, the way the worlds are built etc. All for “cinematic” reasons and not gameplay.

Completely disagree.

The gameplay in regards to the way you fought the robodinosaurs was incredible.

Disagree. TLOU 2 is very cinematic and feels VERY good to play. That's one of the BEST additions to the game as it makes the moment to moment combat very visceral. It plays way better than a game like Resident Evil 3 Remake yet looks a hundred times better.

Max Payne 3 is another very cinematic game(tons of cutscenes) with EXCELLENT third person shooting gameplay.

I’m not even gonna talk to you about TLOU2. I already know that’s gonna get us nowhere.:mjlol:

You tend to pick specific games to say they're overly cinematic and thus hurt the gameplay when I find that at complete odds with the ones I've played. I pointed out that only games such as Until Dawn or Detroit:Become Human should really be classified as a cinematic game and you said they're more of a game than Uncharted :laff:

I 100% agree that those are true "cinematic" games.

I don’t tend to pic anything.

The devs themselves usually tell you what they are doing. GG themselves talked about the cinematics and why they made certain design decisions. That’s OK and that’s the style of game they wanted to make. I

Naughty Dog did nothing but talk about how cinematic their game was, and how it was made to make you feel emotional even went as far as to say the game wasn’t made to be “fun”

Im not making that up, that’s the type of game they set out to make. And you can see/feel it in design decisions.

And yes there’s more of a game to the “pick your own adventure” style of cinematic games because you as the player are in charge of the cinematics. The “gameplay” IS the “cinematics” in that style of game as opposed to being something you do in-between cutscenes.

The reason RE is not considered “cinematic” is because the gameplay is sandbox style with Crafting, Puzzles, Exploration, etc. You go through large interrupted swaths of gameplay where you have to figure out where to go and what to do with minimal interruptions, with non-linear progression.

TLOU is the total opposite. Very focused on funneling you down a path to continue the story. The ND devs don’t want you spending a bunch of time exploring, doing puzzles, etc cause they want to keep up the cinematic pace. The gameplay is more straightforward and linear. Any puzzles, crafting, etc is minimal.

Not true, they made a complete video detailing some of the new gameplay additions to TLOU2.

They said the game wasn't made to be "fun" as in a jolly and super happy game in terms of tone. The game is FUN the same way RE2 can be FUN but yet it's a tense game...

It literally plays like a high budget TPS with stealth mechanics on top of cqc.

It's a blend of multiple genres. You keep harping on to "you can see it in their design.."
See what? The game looks amazing and they have some of the best choreographed cutscenes. That doesn't come at no expense of gameplay. I said you keep picking specific games to nitpick yet plenty of other games are literally no different.

You keep acting like TLOU 2 and Uncharted plays completely different to other games in the genre.
