1st off Nas is my favorite MC, followed by Lupe. Kendrick is just a MC that I like. However the Coli is using this quotable thing to try to discredit Kendrick which is stupid.

Second, how are we defining quotables? Is it bars the majority of people know, or just dope lines that you think could be quotables?
I’m a huge P fan and The Infamous is a undeniable classic, but are you sure the majority of hip hop heads can name the quotables P had on there besides shock ones? Maybe some 90s heads from New York but outside of that I doubt it.
Off the top of your head how many quotables can you name from 3000, or Scarface? This is a really dumb argument. How did this even gain traction?

Bruh...You dont know how silly you sound, im from london, when that man passed (P), we was ALLL quoting his shyt, and i'm 23. I break bread..i rose early morning...let me start from the beginning of the list...I conversate with many men, time to begin again...I opened my eyes to the streets where i was raised as man...there's a war going on outside no man is safe...queens get the money...nikka u serious?

Scarface? I sit alone in my 4 cornered room...

not much of an outkast fan, ill leave that to the others

he benefits highly off of sounding like he's going in. all in the delivery.

:mjlol:

you can't be equating quotables and memes..fukk outa here.

quotables matter...only Kendrick fans seem to have the defensive stance with them.
you say a rapper and people got ones they immediately associate with them.

just about any rapper worth their salt has a verse that when your hear that song come on..no matter where you are, house, car, club...you rapping that word for word as good as he is Kendrick (or J Cole for that matter but he's just terrible) doesn't have one.

:yeshrug:

closest i get to that with Kendrick is the start of ADHD.

Quotables are highly subjective

So you have one quote from Scarface and none from 3000. You do realize they are two of the best rappers of all time. The fact that a massive amount of people don’t quote their rhymes don’t take away from their greatness. And just because you are not a fan of someone doesn’t mean you won’t know their quotables. I’m not a fan of Nelly but I still know a few quotables from him.
As far as P is concern, maybe y’all were
quoting shyt from the Infamous. But their are large pockets in America that couldn’t do that. And their is a difference between ultra fans of a artist quoting lines and the general public knowing the lines. I can quote a ton of shyt from Kendrick, but all will say most people can’t quote those lines. Again, this is a silly argument only meant to downplay Kendrick.

This is blatantly why we need magazines like the source, I get it, you want to believe that kendrick is this super lyricist, elite artists, one of a kind talent, it's what they're telling you, but...the dudes lyrics are weak. Damn near every rapper has a bag of quotable lines, that have resonated. The fact that people can't seem to name these lines for a rapper that is so good...well, it says something.

I see why people say the quotable thing is overblown. Most nikkas name the same 10 quotables from the greats. So if a rapper doesnt have 10 stand out lines, that discredits a nikka who has dope stories, dope verses like kendrick?

On the other hand lets not act like quotables aint shyt:whoa:. Its very important to me,but its just like any other quality emcees have. you could discount somebody for having a wack flow, wack voice, wack delivery and some of you would get mad an pretend those things dont matter, just like quotables dont matter to kendrick fans. I say you are stupid if you discount any of those things when talking about what makes a emcee great.

Exactly. This whole talking point muthafukkas on here is running with is ridiculous.
You sound emotional. When people crown some top 10 they are under the microscope. Kendrick is being graded on the same curve as the Nas' and Jay's. If you dont want that then admit he aint on that level. Everyone in history referred to as the top guy in rap has lines that general rap fans at the time know. And those lines become a part of history because we keep hearing about it. K. DOT doesn't have them.

:camby:Weak argument.
1. Kendrick is not in my top 10. Just because i’m calling people out on this this dumbass quote argument doesn’t mean i’m some super Kendrick Stan. I do like Kendrick as a MC, and when it all said and done, I think he will be looked at as one of the greats.
2. Kendrick have at least two generally accepted classic albums and you can make an argument for more. Plus he is still in his prime. Y’all are trying way too hard to be critical. Y’all are like the people that try to argue that Reasonable Doubt is not a classic, and that 2pac is overrated because he wasn’t super lyrical. These are like VladTV type of arguments. The obsession with Kendrick quotables are like Vlad obsession with the beats Nas pick.

Jay said it best in my opinion.. if you were to put lyrics on a page and read them you can see the greatness in Big, Nas, Rakim, Lupe lyrically... but Kendrick is just an average lyricist and subpar on certain beats and his flow is mainly what people swoon over...
