Every time an ignorant person says bicycling and public transit would never work in America like it does in Europe…

Some people don’t want to take public transportation. I hated taking the train everyday. Sometimes, I drove into the city just to have some peace, and privacy in my car, and not be surrounded by people. Plus, it’s cold or really hot in some places. The hell I look like waiting outside at a station, or riding a bike.

:hhh:

Public Transport is just one aspect(major aspect). You also need to redesign neighborhood so people don't need to get in their cars in the first place. Dense neighborhoods where things we consume everyday are walking distance. The though of getting in car to go to the corner store, dry cleaners, pharmacy, coffee house etc. is just gross.

These alabama roads barely in good enough shape for us to roll cars on :mjlol:

I cant imagine trying to bike

Tuscaloosa gonna be even worse with how many people would be crammed together :scust:

Plus, you expect us to bike home late at night?

Gonna have to duck deer, wolves, coyotes, bears, cows, and skunks for hours just to get home:damn:

cycling bridges?

Weather, physical fitness, times, and a desire for convenience play into this. I haven’t walked to my corner store since I was 10 years old.

I live 12 miles from my job. Ain’t no way in the fukk I’m using a bike every day. fukk that
I'm 15 mi (30 miles round trip) Takes me 1 hr just cruising. By the time I get there I'm relaxed, not stressed and the ride home is great too because then I get to de-stress.

Sucks when it's hot because then I have to shower at work, (we have very nice facilities, full gym, etc plus very light traffic because we're government, not a public building) when it's not hot, like yesterday it was 52 degrees, I didn't even break a sweat.

Hell I had a foot race in April or March and it was like 38 degrees when the race started. At the end of it, I was warm (took my gloves off during) but I wasn't sweating.

I know I'm getting older because now I like that shyt. I hate peeling my damn shirt off, drenched in sweat.
Americans are too fat and/or lazy to be biking anywhere. I know I am. :camby:

Imagine all the missed time and PTO taken because folks got into bike accidents, got injured, or got two clicks out and said fukk this and turned around and went home.
fukk I look like using up my chakra to bike down the street 5-10 minutes to pull up to the drive-thru? :mjtf:

And my main problem with these disingenuous threads is always that bicycle is the main way they want people to travel. They never talk about increasing subways, light rail, buses, trolleys. Bikes are always the answer.

I actually used to commute by bike. It sucked. It sucked on rainy days. It sucked on hot days. It sucked on windy days.

I've ridden in the rain, the wind, the windy rain. It sucks, but I've gotten over it. I have a rain suit I put in my back pack, I'm completely dry when I get home. Once you do the hard shyt and make it, it's like "ok I've done this, how much harder can it get?" I guess I've yet to be broken. But I understand.
