Every time an ignorant person says bicycling and public transit would never work in America like it does in Europe…

But at a price comparable to picking it up in bulk at a store, like Sam's Club? I'm willing to try an easier and by all means cheaper way to do things but all you've done is told me there is a better way and have not actually proven that to me. By all means, show me. I want to learn. 😃
I don’t know what things costs at Costco

DC used to have an extensive streetcar network but that got bushed back in the 60s. :francis:
Many cities did. Houston even had an extensive streetcar network. All abolished though unfortunately.

American cities use to be dense walkable cities. Even Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas was just beginning to hit that phase of high growth just before WW2. Policies destroyed that. Policies can easily return a city back to that. But people are in love with car centricity. It is basically illegal to build cities like NYC or Philadelphia, or Paris in the US now. Personally, I don't even hate the car. I just need options. If I want to bike, walk, take transit, or drive, give me that option and do so efficiently. I hate areas where you are forced to use your car for nearly everything.

So they don't have it as a 32 pack or even a 40 pack? Because I can get that much at the price they are selling for 24 pack. Cost of gas would not make the difference either and I could buy things along the way as well. :francis:

The route I take to work isn’t good for bikes. I stay in a semi rural area & the school I work at is somewhat close to the city. No bike lanes or street lights for most of my route, & I have to take the busiest street in my county.

Yea I’m not trying to shower while at work. You can have that

Congrats :pachaha:
Couldn’t be me
thats why the adoption of ebikes have skyrocketed for people with long commutes.:ld:

Imagine thinking a place that is a 2 hr drive isn't going to be closer to 3 with mass transit. :pachaha:
:what:

that speaks volumes about the state of public transportation in your area. In NYC a lot of people who own cars use public transportation to commute because it is faster in many cases.

It's basically reverse logic and the usual american exceptionalism. Reverse logic being that they say "well look at our cities, they're built for cars" yeah well duh that's the point Sherlock, urban planing is not set in stone. You can make better choices at any point. American exceptionalism being "Yeah but we're not Europe durh" just like they say "We can't ban guns" even though damn near the entire world can. Acting like they're some invisible hand floating above the US that stops it from banning guns lmao

This, and also people taking their personal preference as a reason to be against as if both things can't be the case.
Having better public transit infrasture doesn't mean you can't drive your car. and not personally wanting to use a subway yourself isn't a good reason to be against subways. I've seen dozens of posts in this thread with people essentially saying "well it wouldn't work for me. so fukk it."

Yes, I'm sure you love commuting at least 20 miles per day via bicycle in NYC.

Tell us about it.

:coffee:

Isn't commuting 20 miles per day via car in NYC a nightmare?

I live 12 miles from my job. Ain’t no way in the fukk I’m using a bike every day. fukk that

12 miles is about 45 minutes on a bike unless there are a ton of lights. Less if you like to ride fast. Probably only 20 or so minutes more than it's taking you by car, it reduces stress, you get your cardio and you don't need gas, parking, or putting wear on your vehicle.

interesting thread
im a huge cyclist and have been commuting for 10+ years

it makes more sense for certain cities

we should probably focus on those cities first as a proof of concept and then the rest of the fatties will see how doable it is
the crazy thing is rural areas and suburbs have the space to allocate public transit and bike lanes.
