Every time an ignorant person says bicycling and public transit would never work in America like it does in Europe…

A LOT of those pedestrian plazas in the city are unnecessary.

Y'all really need to wake the fukk up and stop carrying water for these dumb CACs who don't like cars

They're not the allies y'all think they are

:dead:
why is everyone acting like having good infrastructure will threaten their ability to drive a car? Are cars illegal in Amsterdam?
Because you're refusing to accept that the goal of the people who champion this shyt IS TO GET RID OF CARS

It's some willful ignorance at this point

I assumed y’all wanted to do away with cars. If that ain’t the case than my fault. I’ll calm my ass down lol
They do

It's like saying the GOP doesn't NOT want Black people to vote but what they do is make it harder for Black people to vote by requiring lots of bullshyt or closing polling places early

It is literally the same shyt

It's too late.
Cities south of the Nixon Dixon and west of the Appalachian were built for cars. Buildings are further apart.

Amsterdam was already built for walking before the car was invented.

Breh why would I want to ride public transport if I don't have to? There is no situation at my point in life I would do so.

Let's not shyt on private ways...which is why I don't understand op point?
These folks does'nt understand that there is NO middle ground

We're already AT the middle ground. You can ride a bike if you want to, you can take public transportation if you want to, you can drive if you want to..

There is no scenario in which you are able to have a car and make these cities "bike friendly" so that Becky and Zack McGentrifiy can ride home drunk with no helmet, while zipping in and out of traffic at 1 in the morning.

This is what they want, this is what they've been pushing in NYC for a solid 8 years now and it's going to come to a head soon because as I pointed out, you have the DOT essentially doing whatever it wants in order to appease these colonizers and faux socialists that have infected this city, from community boards on up

How effective would that be carrying 8 32 count cases of bottled water, frozen meats, cases of cereal and much more? I shop once a month for a reason.
Amazon fresh delivers my waters, meats weekly with no delivery fee. Could use fresh direct for dozens of retailers.

This example wouldn’t justify 20 percent of the vehicle expenses.

We can’t tell you why you would want to. But I want to because the cost of owning, maintaining, insuring a car isn’t worth it to me.

Working from home, everything gets delivered to my door. The subway is fast and avoids traffic. Been living car free for 8 years and I couldn’t image going back

They'll deliver Aquafina and, when I'm in Texas, Ozarka? They're willing to deliver $300 to $500 worth of bulk groceries? To places out in the middle of nowhere at no extra cost? It's a fair example.

I mean.. I can’t speak to “in the middle of nowhere”. But Aquafina or any Pepsi product isn’t a challenge to find on a delivery app. And yes if done huge orders for cookouts/block parties

But at a price comparable to picking it up in bulk at a store, like Sam's Club? I'm willing to try an easier and by all means cheaper way to do things but all you've done is told me there is a better way and have not actually proven that to me. By all means, show me. I want to learn. 😃

it is 100 percent lobbies. threads like this are sad because you see how effective they have been. advocate for better public transit systems because people think its a challenge to their freedom to own a car :francis:
You are correct.

No disrespect but I think your perception is based on where you are living. In most suburbs public transporation is slow and too infrequent to rely on. In other areas, it's the complete opposite and can be relied on daily at least getting to work. I lived in both type of areas. I noticed people who only know suburbs never learned to appreciate public transit which is understandable how it can be structured. Still nothing beats being able to walk or hop on a train or bus go somewhere. You get a decent amount of walking and not having the worry about the headaches of traffic and people driving crazy.

I don’t think I remember which video it was but basically he hinted that it’s all due to the automobile industry and the lack of city planning departments that are willing to make the change to more density packed areas.

Also racism.
All of the above are correct. Also, the military played a large part in US roadways in the 1900s. When roads were built, suburbs followed and we all know about white flight. Most folks don't factor most Americans lived in cities or towns that can replicate cities a long time ago. As you mention the auto industry did play a role changing that.
