Every now and then someone says Madvillainy was a classic. That album had no impact.

which Madlib/Doom project sold like bytches Brew? Which album influenced hiphop like Kind of Blue influenced Jazz?
Miles D has approximately 50 albums of which 2 went platinum over several decades. Post Malone just went triple in a year:stopitslime:.

Point is that even if a smaller group of people, fukks with your shyt. It can still be a classic like Illmatic was classic when it came out, but it took years for it to move units. Core hiphop heads still knew. It’s the fact that everyone that has listened, including the actual hiphop heads and tastemakers, fukk with it that makes it what it is. Like Post Malone has a million fans that thinks his shyt is John Blaze but there’s also a million people, including the heads and makers, that thinks that he’s mediocre. Which removes the chances of his shyt being labeled a classic.

I like Madlib, but could never get into Doom. Other than “Fancy Clown” (the sample) I didn’t enjoy anything from those two.

Damn son :gucci:

Your post doesn't make any sense as well. You like Madlib. But other than Fancy Clown's sample, you don't enjoy anything from those two?

Are you saying you don't even like most of the beats on Madvillainy?

I see it pop up in essential album lists (mostly hipster types), and folks on here (most recently with the Alchemist vs Madlib debate), etc.. But I've never heard anyone bumping that album on the street. If they did it was in their earbuds/headphones.

I don't think it can be a classic record if it didn't have at least some impact on the culture, and it had no bearing on the direction of the music or culture. Came and went.
What impact did ressurection, illadelph half-life vol 2 and like water for chocolate have outside of people enjoying them

It had an incredible impact on the culture :mjlol:

Madvillainy was one of the first auteur hip-hop records, and damn near held down the Stones Throw camp until Flying Lotus came through in the early 2010s.
