Looking up to a guy like this just because he is rich is your first mistake.

Secondly, outside of offering you a job, what do you expect him to tell you that is worth $2,000?

I look at guys like this with the side-eye. He has "hustler" written all over him.

Isn't crowdfunding a slick term for finding as many suckers as possible to pay for what you want?

Also known as "preacher" "Salesman" "Pharma Rep" and "Stripper"...
All dem fixin to get you up out ya wallet...

Unless your product sells itself you're going to have to do some sort of re-engagment or convincing for your customers. Not sure what you expected damon to tell you. He aint gonna give you the sauce breh. You gotta figure that out.

But where you messed up was not utilizing the opportunity to establish a relationship with damon. That really should have been your number 1 focus going in. Business is all about relationships and damon has a powerful network. 1 phone call could change your life.

You shouldnt have left that room with his direct contact info and some type of follow up. Even if just to tell him your thoughts on the book he told you to read. If not him then his assistant. Thats really what you paid for. The opportunity to establish a relationship with him.

Yeah it never hurts to try and make connections. Could have tried to fish a number or some contact info out of him.

30 minutes is still so short tho. If Damon gave him the same cold shoulder after 30 minutes of talking about family & football OP woulda just been left thinking he should have talked more business shyt. It's crazy how it all really does come down to luck with a shred of everything else at the end of the day. Some of those guys like it when you show personality and some of them rather you come on strictly business terms. And you don't know what the best move is until everything is over. Either way you gonna be short that 2k. :shaq2:

who said I didn't want to do that?

Its good advice but its COMMON SENSE...I knew that shyt before the meeting....

If I meet one of the top entrepreneurs in the country, I want to learn shyt I DONT ALREADY KNOW
if it's such common sense why haven't you done it? because if you figure that out you will most likely figure everything else out. Customers don't give a fukk about your 'brand' if your product isn't doing anything for them. What you wanted him to tell you press up up down down left left? It sounds like you were looking for some magic pill and got mad when you found out it's actually the fundamentals.

it was about the big picture which is that I shouldn't have to CONVINCE A CUSTOMER TO REORDER MY PRODUCT

I shouldn't be in the convincing business, I should be in the -how is a customer going to feel naturally compelled to reorder my product business-

that's where BRANDING comes into play, and that's why I wanted that meeting
:what: no that's where delivering a good product consistently over time comes into play. nikkas aint reordering your product and you think branding is the issue? you don't feel naturally compelled to do anything unless it has been giving you value over time. in the beginning you always have to convince a customer. nikkas preorder the new call of duty today like crazy because they've gotten quality over the years almost every time. the first few iterations of the game there were probably never anywher near the amount of preorders as the latest versions have now.

For real :mjlol: at nikkas thinking the OP had enough time to talk about random shyt to show personality, their own business, as well as asking the right questions to unlock more knowledge from a mulit-millionaire all in 30 minutes.

This comes back to circumstance and luck. Even though OP had the skills and opportunity to get a meeting with DJ, the circumstances surrounding the situation weren't in his favor. He only got 30 minutes and most of that was prolly spent listening to dude toss out random generic advice that anybody on here could have suggested.

I would have prolly tried to find out who's done the 1 on 1 with DJ before and see if it helped them or get some type of feedback on what to expect before I drop 2 racks.

Breh it's not sound advice if you can't put any of it into context. And especially if it seems the agent gave no effort to earn what he was being paid for. Sorry, it's not accurate if Shaq is telling you to play like a 7'2 center at 5'10. Something better would be "work hard" "no days off" "eat right" "get good coaching" stuff that's actually applicable to your situation

I'm sure people get hustled all the time by people who already have money because they believe in their head that what they proceed to say must be good advice no matter what.

Who then proceeds to tell you cookie cutter garbage you could have googled in 5 min.

When your name & brand have enough clout you no longer have to do work to get paid, you can just collect money to show up. I believe thats what some guy alluded to in his post about celebrity club appearances. Don't downplay his total scam of a job just because his name is Daymond John.

Again, an inability to execute a proven strategy is not a fault of the strategy but rather a lacking of the individual.
My business has been up since 2013 and maintains a perfect 5-star customer rating. Everything Mr Jones said is correct.

If I were to have him consult me, It would both add wisdom to me as the proprietor and also value to the store brand because rather than belittle the consultant and disparage the advice I would put the value of both to work. A consult only adds value to someone who will listen.

The other consideration is that a 5'10 player should expect the advice of a 7'2 player to be daunting because they do not share a base. i.e. the advice of someone such as a mogul with connections and capital and personnel may be out of the league of someone without those things. Meaning if you can't dunk, appoaching someone who can is going to result in them telling you... just dunk.
So a 5'11 consultant might be a better choice for a player such as myself. Someone with a similiar base skillset.

However, the advice is completely acurate. OP is not getting his money's worth because he chooses to shyt on what he paid for and throw shade at the man rather than actually attempt to implement what he paid to learn. For example, has he even bothered to go get and read a crowdfunding book as instructed? See, its easy to accuse plans of not working but in most cases its the person not working toward the plan.

I'm not singling out OP either. There are many with this shortcut mentality.

man I'm kind of naive when it comes to the good nature of people

allot of times we project our own character traits on other people

and because I'm such a honorable dude with integrity,

I often make the mistake of assuming that with other people

the reason why many of you guys knew something like this was going to be a rip off

is because if you were in his position, you would've done the same thing...

they say real recognize real, well fake also recognize fake

If I was a black man worth hundreds of millions and I saw a struggling young black entrepreneur infront of me

I wouldn't let that dude out of my sight, I would immediately starting helping dude out

not only because its the right thing to do, but also because its group economics

but anyways, it was a good learning experience :tu:
He probably has seen a million esp coming out of queens so probably just doesn't care anymore

I honesrly thought those paid meets were for stans..

A friend of mine paid $5000 for a 3 day "basketball camp" where he hooped it up with ex-nba guys
all for "charity' although some were paid an appearance fee
quick pickup game
then go smoke cigars and drink and bullshyt

I don't know what advice could be given in 30 mins
shyt, I used to listen to zig Ziegler et al etc tapes on way into work
..I'm not even in sales
But just to get fired up
Same way I have mp3 player of music for gym

I mean, there's no secret ingredient
you need to be fundamentally sound
And stay motivated to execute your plan at a high level

Correct.

Even large scale grocery stores put out loss-leaders and weekly sales and coupons despite servicing areas where they are the closest most convienient outlet and everypne needs their product (food) on consequence of death.

If someone believes they do not need to convince and re-convince customers to buy their products it is no shock they don't have many customers.

who cares? That's neither here or there. Maybe I was too busy? Maybe I didn't have the resources?? I mean what difference does it make?

You don't have to speculate as to what I was looking for, I've actually said what I was looking for throughout this thread

IF I HAVE A FACE TO FACE MEETING WITH ONE OF THE TOP ENTREPRENEURS IN THE COUNTRY, I EXPECT TO HEAR shyt I DONT KNOW ALREADY

not some generic shyt like "you should send a coupon to your previous customers

that's where delivering a good product consistently over time comes into play. nikkas aint reordering your product and you think branding is the issue? you don't feel naturally compelled to do anything unless it has been giving you value over time. in the beginning you always have to convince a customer. nikkas preorder the new call of duty today like crazy because they've gotten quality over the years almost every time. the first few iterations of the game there were probably never anywher near the amount of preorders as the latest versions have now.

I am getting reorders but just not enough. I've sold thousands of unit's but not ONE person has made a complaint about the product

And not one person has requested a return of the product.

So why haven't most people reordered? Do you think I would have allot more reorders if I was a big and famous company?

If I had a stronger brand, do you think that by default I would have reorders?

I believe the answer is yes because I realize that there's ALLOT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS THAT GO INTO BUYING A PRODUCT.

it's deeper than just whether someone "likes" it or not

For example, people buy products because they see other people buying it

Or they buy a product because they like the packaging

People don't just BUY a product, they actually buy INTO a product

breh if you paid shaq 2k to give the most general advice you could possibly give then you would have my sympathy too. The information isn't wrong, but it's not applicable, and he clearly isn't taking you seriously. --Maybe you are right and he's taking advantage of people who are looking for the shortcut.

But there are people out there that take their consulting practice seriously. shyt sounded like a doctors appointment or something. In & out as quickly as possible, thx 4 ur money. If it was Ray's Consulting from down the street charging you those rates, suddenly you would understand..But because it was DJ, oh he did an alright job? :obama: lol

Update - It was Daimond John

As you can see by the screenshot, it's a receipt in my email box from a company called Game Changer$.

I think its his company, and he does consulting for people.

Meet Branding Consultant Daymond John for Marketing Advice | Game Changer Meetings

I decided to go ahead and post this as a learning experience for you guys, especially for all my struggling entrepreneurs.

If you've been grinding with your startup like I have for many years, allot of times when something positive and exciting comes along,

we immediately jump at the opportunity without thinking it through.

Everything that glitters aint gold. Besides the shyt that I already mentioned, the meeting itself was almost disrespectful believe it or not.

For all my people who been watching Shark Tank since day one, yall know that Daymond can be an a$$hole.

He fell back on that as the show became more popular, but watch the first couple of seasons.

I was aware of his assholish nature, but decided to give it a shot anyways cause I didn't actually think he would be an a$$hole towards me during the interview.

But he did lol. He didn't even looked like he wanted to be there lol. For example, he was looking out the window while I was talking LOLLLLLL

He even sneak dissed me during the interview too LOL He said something real slick to me too. I couldn't actually believe he said that.

And also, for all my goodhearted people out there. Remember this : allot of times we make the mistake of assuming that other people have the same heart as we do.

I'm a dude that likes to help people, and I was hoping that during the meeting that he would take a liking to me and decide to help me out.

I'm a Afrikan immigrant living paycheck to paycheck at a minimum wage job and I have been grinding with my startup for many years.

I need money and expertise to really scale this company and he's worth 300 million dolllars and didn't even decide to help me out.

He didn't necessarily needed to invest in my company but he could've ATLEAST helped a young brother out.

Like for example, I dont have the ability to mass produce my product, he could've atleast offer to hook me up with one of his factories connections, which he has many of.

How can you be a Black man worth hundreds of millions of dollars and sit face to face with a struggling young brother and dont even help him out?
I gotta be real here, I actually think your expectations were extremely naive and unrealistic.

I don't see a problem with this. Beyond the $2,000 he took he had nothing to gain from offering you advice. If he had owned a piece of your business then he would have taken the time to muster a unique strategy for success. Otherwise, why would he give a shyt? Why would he make someone else rich if he wasn't going to profit from it? (beyond the measly $2,000) The world doesn't work like that.

wow this post is so sad and ignorant

it's sad that people are so selfish that they think like this

by the way, he actually ADVERTISES that he will provide a unique (which is the exact word that you used)

strategy
