The other bowls have become NIT status with the playoffs now. They need to kill off these wack Bowls......the fukkin Gucci Mane Bowl, Subway Bowl, Cereal Bowl, all those weak shyts.

Minimum should be 8 teams (all 5 power conference champs and 3 at large).
Optimal is 16 (all 10 FBS conference champs and 6 at large).
Power conferences would fight it because it will risk their investment losing to a team in the first round in a mid power oh god. College football backward thinking is because it is controlled by old racist southerns

FCS regular season games are 10 games but most of the schools lose money (only like 4% make bread). I know that student fees and booster money makes up for it though. They aint foolin no one.
FBS schools, esp the power 5, don't want to lose out on those extra home game revenues so losing an extra home game or 2 is out of the question for them in football. That's too much money to jeopardize.
12 regular season games, a conference championship and 2 more games right now. If they goto 8, that will be an NFL season on some of these kids bodies.

top 4 teams get bye weeks.

Playoffs start 1 week after season ends.

The tickets/travel are the biggest issue. You almost have to do it by region.

Yeah, the ratings dip has a lil' to do with NYE; but it has a lot to do with how we often clamor for shyt in life and then we get it, and realize it's really not all that. I never wanted a playoff because I already knew what time it was. There's basically no reason to watch any other bowl game besides the final. It'll never be like the "first time," ever again.
At least with the BCS it built up to a climax. You normally had a couple great games or interesting matchups that led to the final. Even in the event you didn't care about the prior games -- it still built up to the final. But, this current shyt you have the the first two games, then you have some other games you don't really care about, and then the final. So, I'm supposed to get geeked out for the first two games, chill, and then get geeked out again?
People have short ass attention spans. You're only going to be sitting around waiting for the first two games and doing the whole football festivities if you're a fan of one of those schools. Otherwise, you'll just wait to the final and get your wings, chips, beer and shyt then.
