"OMG Spear vs Spear" You think they'll spear each other at the same time just for nostalgia or a cheap crowd pop.
Wouldn't Goldberg vs Reigns be a bigger "Spear vs Spear" match anyway?
Not that "Spear vs Spear" with some old wrestler is something that anyone should consider good or compelling storytelling at all.

I look at it as Edge being in a position to put over Drew at ‘Mania, with the company continuing to push Dude as a strong, credible champion by having him beat legends and former champions.

So I “get” it. Yea you gotta stop putting too much stock in part timers and even has beens. But I ain’t tripping too much. I said before...based on his history with both em, I see Orton (possibly) being added to Drew/Edge at Mania if it definitely happens.

I know a lotta folks are saying Roman instead, but unless I’m off, I assume Edge is moreso Raw than SD.

I actually don’t really mind it tbh :yeshrug:
if Edge’s return wasn’t well received last year and people weren’t into his run then, I could understand not wanting him to win this year. But his whole return has been about how he scratched and clawed to get back in shape and have one more run. And people generally have been into it. Remember that ugly shirt they gave him that said Grit on it last year?

Him entering and winning at #1 lines up with that slogan and his character arc since returning.

Should somebody else have won? Sure. Bryan, Big E, and others were right there. But we should all know that 9/10 when Vince McMahon has a triumphant return of an older star on his hands he’s gonna ride with that 110%. So it’s not surprising Edge won and I’m not mad at it. Let’s see where it goes.

I was gonna put the horrible option BUT to me Brock Rollins or orton someone like that would be horrible . And with Lee out with Covid :yeshrug: In retrospect his promo about the Title should of said this was coming . I don’t really hate edge winning I just don’t see a title match I care about him in also :patrice: now this better not somehow turn into Brock or Goldberg match for either title match :martin:

people thinking Big E should win and go to Wrestlemania was odd to me. when they're clearly doing baby steps with E.
last night laid down roots for a win next year though.

This was the year to pull the trigger on Big E winning.

When you look at the participants, you can eliminate at least 20 of them from even being considered to having a chance: Sami Zayn, Mustafa Ali, Nakamura, Ziggler, Carlito, Xavier Woods, John Morrison, Elias, Damien Priest, Kane, Corbin, Dominik Mysterio, Otis, Hurricane, Christian, Cesaro, Miz, Ricochet, Sheamus, Rey Mysterio

Take them away, and here are the remaining 10: Edge, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Big E, Daniel Bryan, Matt Riddle, Bobby Lashley, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman

Of those 10, the only ones that could legitimately make sense and be simple enough to book for writers are Big E, Daniel Bryan, and Bobby Lashley (Edge & Orton don't need a rumble win at this stage in their career, WWE doesn't see Jeff Hardy as a Mania Main Eventer, too soon for Matt Riddle, AJ Styles just faced McIntyre for the title a couple months ago & WWE won't do a heel vs heel Mania title match against Reigns, Rollins won the Rumble two years ago and Strowman has been Big Show'd).

Of those 3, Daniel Bryan and Lashley would probably not be the right choices because of who the champs currently are (Bryan could have won the rumble to add to his HOF career, but he'd more than likely be losing to McIntyre or Reigns to help put them over more. Bobby Lashley wouldn't have been a bad option however he jobbed to McIntyre a few months ago and I don't think WWE views Lashley as the guy to take down Reigns.)

That leaves Big E. He's already over, can hold his own on the mic, hasn't had a Main Event push, would be a fresh match-up for McIntyre and Reigns. Not to mention they already planted seeds for a Reigns/Big E feud 2 months ago on Talking Smack, and it would not only provide a Mania moment but Reigns/Big E could be the headlining feud going into the summer.

I wanna hate on it, but the Edge Rumble story was done in such a great way that I'm enjoying it. This Edge run has overachieved way more than it has any right to be. It has also revitalized Orton's career as well.

I don't see how they don't run back an Orton and Edge main event to finish this story. My guess is a triple threat with Drew or have him drop the belt entirely.

I do need that Edge vs. Christian retirement match.

See I disagree. I don't watch regularly anymore but I didn't see any type of "Edge Rumble story" being built at all besides him doing a promo saying he was entering and them running with the comeback narrative, which is fine, but they also ran with the comeback narrative last year so how long are we gonna base every angle he does off that?

I just don't see where he fits. They just pushed the Scot to the moon, and Roman is on an all-time run.
