Hey…Boosie is better and more poppin than Jayz ever was apparently and his last album sold 500 records…so Nas doing 20k means he’s 40x bigger than Boosie out here? Pause if applicable

Nas use to consistently go platinum back in the day when tapes and CDs were sold in stores. Like did that whole group of fans just disappear over the years or what. I'm 38 now I guess my peers don't listen to hip hop anymore.
A lot of the hottest newer rappers are barely getting to 100 K.

This isn't a Nas thing. It's an industry thing.

Industry rules have changed a couple of times and now it’s strictly streaming and in the case of billboard it’s US based streams and physicals from retail (but not artists stores )

There was a reason you didn’t see too many releases first half of the year cause they were waiting on the new rules and now everyone dropping

Agreed. Despite that first single flopping I think Travis Scott has an opportunity to put up crazy numbers. Drake will put up crazy numbers in a couple weeks. Nicki Minaj is gonna do 300k at least with the return of bundles IMO. Cole will do crazy numbers. And allegedly (allegedly) Kendrick may be coming again this winter.

That's why I been pushing back on this "rap is dead" shyt. The big guns were clearly waiting. Not just for the bundle rule but let's not forget the vast majority of vinyl pressing plants are backlogged with Taylor Swift orders right now lmao. That situation will get better in the coming months too.

Older fans don’t stream as much as young people

For those unfamiliar, these are HDD projections. They tend to be very close to the final numbers. I'd expect 18-23k at this point. Prob lands somewhere in the top 22-35 spots. HDD's final chart has the top 50 so we'll know the number for sure.

I'll refrain from any definitive statements until the final numbers are out. Last week's chart as of 7/25:

I don’t know what the deal with the bundles thing is. I had read they were waiting on the ruling and it was a no. Not saying Nas would have done better first week sales but the merch on his store sells and these previous albums could have used it

Plus the majors got streaming farms so they’ll be ok

Its a yes for bundles under certain conditions. I was SHOCKED Nas didn’t do bundles for Magic 2 as his merch always does good in sales but I saw that the CD’s/Vinyl are preordered and won’t ship until September so that wouldn’t help him at all first week as those sales don’t count UNTIL the bundles ship.
