No, the manga's just some promotional material for the anime. It's differences from the anime are the result of Toriyama only providing loose outlines for the plot and letting both parties do whatever they want from there.

I like how they are doing a "soft reset" on the power scaling and it feels like old school dbz where you can noticbly see the power difference in individuals especially with Jiren. The power/percision/control that he has is something Goku and Vegeta don't have yet but is something we can gradually see them attain and get closer to.

The most recent manga chapter was also really good and showed how much of a badass Beerus actually is compared to the other Gods. Seeing that made me really anxious to see how the manga handles the tournament of power.
