Just bought it from the PSN holiday sale, and so far I'm liking the early parts. Graphically it has the same look as Andromeda, and the combat is a lot of fun to play. I'm a warrior so I'm doing the Captain America shield toss followed by a sword slice :wow: . The only negative is there's no new game plus which every game needs now. I will say that incels did their best to bury this game, because to them woke means anything non white male.

My thoughts. Spoilers ahead.
As I stated before. This was a good game but a mediocre DRAGONAGE game. I could overlook some of the drawbacks but the main concern that fukked me up was Rook him/herself. Why tf are they even here? Who are they? Why are they even the protag?

I know the game gives us that little backstory when you choose your faction but Rook remains virtually an unknown throughout the game. I figured once we progressed far enough info the story, the game would flesh out Rook more but they don't. They have absolutely no reason to be the leader of this movement. No merit at all.

  • In Origins, Warden was thrust into the hero role unwillingly. Wrong place, wrong time. Baby warden undergoing the Joining right in the middle of a fukking Blight. Suit up nikka, we need you.
  • In DA2 Hawke was basically a sword for hire mercenary taking odd jobs until they unwillingly got thrown into the Mage v Templar war. Suit up nikka, we need you.
  • Inquisition, the Inquisitor, wrong place wrong time gained powers that made the people look at them as a successor to Andraste. A figure to be worshipped. Thrown into the role of Hero. Suit up nikka, we need you.
Here, Rook is just... there. No background. Why did Varric choose you? What outstanding qualities did they have? Honestly, given the events of Inquisition, Harding should've been the defacto leader after Varric dies. She has all the connects. She has 10 yrs worth of experience. She has the knowledge and connection with Solas. Her arc regarding the reveal of the ancient Elves warring with the Titans would've made the tension between she and Solas even more troublesome. Harding was a more worthy leader than Rook. Rook is the weakest Bioware protagonist ever. I'd rather role with Ryder bytch ass :scust:

Another problem I had was my inability to basically tell nikkas to fukk off and kiss my ass via dialogue choices. It became a real big problem for me during Lucanis side mission with his demon. When his internal battle with Spite threatened to jeopardize the team and mission, Rook should've had the option to tell this nikka "look if you don't get this shyt together, I'll do it for you. Don't let this happen again". We should've been able to kick him off the team and if Spite tried to jump stupid, we should've been able to fight and kill this nikka on some Renegade Shepard vs Wrex shyt.
Can you imagine Warden on a quest through the deeproads fighting all them fukking spiders and darkspawn and one of your squad jeopardizing the mission with his internal demons coming out being unpredictable? fukk that. Imagine what Shepard woulda did. Imagine what Hawke sarcastic ass woulda said.

Mf Taash. This game is supposed to take place in medieval times and this bytch in here talking about some fukking nonbinary, a very modern term. nikkas back then didn't know wtf that shyt was. I literally tried my best to put Taash in every position imaginable during the end game where I thought she would die but I ended up losing Harding instead. I was so fukking mad. Taash immediately leapedfrogged Liam(Andromeda) & Jacob (ME2) as the worst written bioware companion of all time. Even when my wife would sit and watch scenes with Taash she would be like, "why is she so mad"?
"aren't you chasing evil gods? What does her sexuality have to do with anything"?
My wife asks the important questions. My next playthrough, I'm not taking this ho on any mssions. Her ass staying in that room in the lighthouse :camby:

Lastly, the climax mission with Solas. When we had that talk and he was telling me to help him, MIND YOU AFTER this nikka tricked me into thinking Varric was alive, tricking me and trapping me in the fade. Using blood Magic on me and you wanna ask me to help you? The game should've given us the option to say "no, fukk you and fukk your plans". I know at the end, we get the option to trick him or fight him but it shouldn't have even came to that. I did not want Solas on my squad during that final push through Minrathous to get to Elgarnaan. I wanted to kill all the elven gods. ALL OF THEM. Veilguard REALLY dropped the ball with the writing. I fukks with Elgarnaan though. I liked his writing. That nikka can talk shyt with the best of em.

It's a shame, because the game really wasn't all that bad.

But expecting three mil out of a sequel that's coming 10 years after the last one, and has a publicly known rough development cycle is insanity.

they’re gonna also ignore this part

EA pinned most of the blame on its soccer title, EA Sports FC 2025, which was released in September to mixed reviews. The company introduced a refresh this month.

I sitll think this game was a much better effort than Dragon’s Dogma 2 which got by on pure pre-release hype alone, managed to sell 3 mill and fall off a cliff

"it wasn't all that bad" is objectively a rare opinion at this point. and it ruined the brand so its not even like they can spin back on it or count on long-tail sales to shore it up.

this is likely going to end up being bioware's worst project overall.

EA's soccer stuff is whatever. Compared to DD2, DAV spent over twice the time in development (started in 2015) and will end up with half the sales if that. Notice the release didn't even say sales either, it said players lol...

Mass Effect might not even happen because of this mess

Bolded is fukking crazy. EA's annual release schedule is basically held together by FIFA and Madden from a revenue perspective .:skip:

And this game didn't ruin the Dragon Age brand, wasting ten whole years to get a sequel out did. It reached a point where they'd sunk too much time and money into it to not release it, but also too much for it to be a success without putting up crazy numbers. If we're keeping it a buck, this is very much a "Here nikka, DAMN" game.

Mass Effect will likely be just fine. If the studio survived Andromeda and Anthem back to back, they'll be able to see out development on what was internally viewed as their ACTUAL comeback game.

I got the physical with an Amazon gift card and played about 10 hours before I returned it

I actually liked the linear gameplay loop and combat but the dialogue was so lame I just didn’t care about the characters that much. Like if that shyt was only 6/10 good I could probably get thru the game but it’s truly the cheesiest dialog I’ve ever seen in an M rated game

Man these are grown ass adults killing dozens of enemies every time they go out into magical warfare, talking about some “Oh um, erm…its a date! Or um, a plan for two people to meet a certain time together. Yea…that’s it” Like bro GTFOH :mjlol:

I forgot to double back in the Discord once I finished it, but the game gets better further in. You can tell the early hours of the game are definitely what got reworked the most, since that's where some of the worst dialogue is. You could definitely play a dangerous ass drinking game based off of how lazily they throw around the phrase "Elgarnan and Ghilinain" though.

The story beats and set pieces in the mid to late game are definitely good, though. You can tell that, for better or worse, this was made by people who think Mass Effect 2 is Bioware's best game, and tried their best to make a Dragon Age version of that. Solid 7/10. Fun, not something I'd call great, but definitely not a piece of shyt.
