People forget that 2001 got a fair share of hate when it dropped. Doesn't sound anything like The Chronic/not G Funk. None of the songs were as catchy as G Thang. No Daz. No Warren. Kurupt rhyming bytch with bytch. Hell, there was even a gang of dudes who were convinced that No Limit shyt was doper than that album.

Be on the wrong side of history, brehs.

There's not one song on Compton that would be a hit single 2001 had hits :camby:

I'm talking about a few days after 2001 was released. Only single that had dropped by then was Still Dre that debuted and peaked at #93 on the Billboard 100. Plenty of people were saying there were no hit singles on 2001 either back then too. In fact, that album had zero top 10 singles throughout its release. In comparison, The Chronic had two top 10 singles with G Thang and Dre Day.

Easy to say this shyt in 2015 with 20/20 hindsight. In November '99 it was a different story.

there's 2 or 3 cuts that could easily be singles.

the rest are just so cutting edge and unradio friendly in comparison to the climate in radio

this whole album stands as amazing all together

if any of you are classic rock fans and fukks with pink floyd the wall one of the greatest rock albums ever you'll know that you can't really skip through songs or listen to single cuts. need to listen all the way through to get the full effect.

dre changing the rap game like he always do. who cares about singles.

Yo bro, the lead single from 2001 was Still D.R.E., written by Jay-Z, the most memorable part was the keys by Scott Storch and helped by Snoop rapping with Dre on the same song properly since Death Row (fucc No Limit's "Just Dipping", plus I know about "Zoom"). The Next Episode was good for retro Death Row heads (and was a classic in its own respect) but was sampled first by Tash just a few months earlier. So did Cacinem really raise the standard with "Forgot About Dre"?

That's what I'm saying, you gotta take the album in as a whole. I def agree there aren't club bangers on here, but I don't think Dre was even going for that, especially w how music is consumed now. He doesn't need a single Bc nowadays u just drop the whole project and the hype/anticipation off his name alone will sell it. He's giving us a full package. I think Genocide, animals, one shot kill, for the love of money, one shot kill, just another day etc are some of the best songs he's been involved in. The mixing is INCREDIBLE ( he made that premo shyt CRACK- also kudos to him for putting him on there in the first place) and the vocal production is one of the most impressive elements of the album. He had snoop xzibit and ice cube sounding brand new, when's the last time u were :ohhh: over any of their verses recently? He knows what to accentuate, where to stack vocals, help w cadences etc to make the verses have the flair they need. I kno ppl r gonna hate Bc on the coli if it's not a classic it's "garbage" but I really can't think of another hip hop album this year that can match this....plus dude is like 50 years old...I don't understand ppl panning this shyt
