I don't want to hear @trilldealbaby opinion, because I wasn't asking him/her. Its a simple question. Yes or no. Do you consider yourself black or not? Because most people on the Coli think "black looking" Dominicans are denial about their "blackness." Note how I'm emphasizing on "blackness".

I've already said that I am a dark skin Dominican...:mjlol:

on some real shyt tho the coli never talks about the reasons dr even broke off from haitian rule back in the day, they were basically being treated the same way the us colonies were by the uk, high taxes and second class citizen discrimination becuase of the language barriers, all kinds of fukkery... theres alot of pent up tension from that still... not excusing the dominican governments behavior tho but that beef is between them and yall need to see both sides from a historical point of view

this post will get overlooked because it doesn't feed into the coli DR vs Haiti orgy

honestly i cant. i didnt know about that and those dudes are fools. the only explanation i saw on a site was about how those carnivals are usuall bizarro world themed like the carnaval in la vega. dr is a super religious country yet for that carnival people dress up like devils and demons. somebody compared the kkk outfits to that but idk :yeshrug: not a good look.
All im gonna say is when you'r eblack or especially Haitian in DR you tend to be self conscious about it. Last time (and only time) I went to DR i was about 12. My dad had a business partner (dominican dude name Hermantin.. may have mipelled that) that we went to visit. I dont know if it's because of the Haiti plates on my dad's truck but we were getting a lot of stares. I didnt make the connection then but over time i became more aware. I always hear Haitian students in DR who tell me they are discriminated against. My cousin went to do his internship in DR after medical school and he told me the same. Little things like shaking your hands and feeling your knuckles to see if you are some haitian migrant farm worker or something.

At the same time whn im in Delmas (Haiti) I drive by the dominican shops over there nd they all cool peeps. :manny:

Of course there are some fair skin minority tribes in Africa. Im not disputing that. what Im saying is 95 percent of tge people are darksin.

Is that more clear?fukk boy.
So according to your logic a region with a population of 926 million(close to a billion) have the same skin complexion around 95%. Not only a region close to a billion, but a region with the highest amount of ethnic diversity and highest in-built skin complexion diversity according to scientist. Nigeria alone houses over 200+ ethnic groups with many dark skin and light skin ethnics. And yet a WHOLE REGION is suppose to share the same skin complexion around 95%!??? LMAO! This is what happens when we say things out of our asses.

That's not answering my question. Do you consider yourself "black" or not. Its a yes or no answer. Simple. Its only the internet for crying out loud.

"Dark skin Dominican" ain't cutting it. You can be lighter toned and still be considered black, based off of "phenotype". "Black" as a racial entity isn't based off of skin complexion, but ones entire phenotype.

Fair enough. The Dominicans have been harsh with the Haitians. I admit that.

All I am saying is that Haiti was harsh with the Dominicans too. But people want to brush that shyt under the rug because it isn't recent.

I'm not saying DR is legitimate in their treatment. I'm saying blood is on both hands.

You can't easily dismiss the evil shyt Haiti did just because it happened before we were born.

I don't dismiss the fukked up things that Haitians have done to the Dominicans. But the good outweigh the bad when it comes to the Haitians' collective impact on the DR.

And the Dominicans (especially those who are black as tar) will claim "Dominican" before admitting that they're black and of African descent.

They're not doing enough to fix their country, why else are these people escaping to the DR for a better life?

It's not a win-win situation. Haitian immigrants only have cheap labour positions to attain b/c there's rampant institutional/social discrimination which prevents them to attain better jobs. It may benefit DR's economy, but that attitude doesn't benefit the Haitians b/c their skills will only be limited to those low status jobs.

But they still consider whats in the DR better than whats in Haiti though.

Breh, that's even an issue really. In the continent of Africa you don't just get to be from some where because you're born there. This isn't a new idea.

I mention Africa specifically because you could say it's Africans denying Africans.

Earlier I mentioned that a lot of a atrocities like this happen in many African countries as well.

Additionally, someone mentioned it, but the Bahamas is another Black nation doing the same (as far as citizenship). My ex was Haitian and has Bahamian family. When we went to Bahamas all they were complaining about was their difficulties in getting things done without citizenship

Adriana Martell is right that many of you seem to get REALLY excited when it happens in DR v Haiti.
There are two basic principles to acquire citizenship at birth, ius Soli (Right of soil) and ius sanguinis (right of blood). The former means you acquire the citizenship of the place you were born, the second means you acquire it by the Heritage of your parents. The DR like the US has ius Soli. That means everybody born in the DR automatically possesses Dominican citizenship. They changed that law in 2009, so now your parents need to be legally in the DR for ius Soli to apply. The problem is, that they are now trying to apply this law to people born before 2009 and even to people who were born to Dominican parents whose parents were illegally in the DR, even though at the time they were born, that did not prevent you from getting citizenship at birth. No other country is doing that. This is not about applying for citizenship, but about taking it away from people who already have it and are now becoming stateless.

Yes because not only are there very few whites when compared to the majority black population but crossbreeding is not too big in Africa.Besides, you will need a sizeble population of whites to drastically change the skin shade at the level your trying make it to be.
