I know its none of my business, but as a "Dark Skinned" Dominican do you consider yourself "black" or of African descent? I'm just curious. I'm not forcing you to claim either.

Reason being is that some characters believe that darker complexioned Dominicans are denial of their blackness. I have met some Dominicans not even that black who were not denial of their African ancestry. Heck urban model Rosa Acosta admitted she and other Dominicans are of African ancestry; though she caught a lot of flack.

I think its the most retarded question to ask someone that obviously has features from the motherland

@trilldealbaby gave an excellent post about "black" ...see her post up thread.

Haiti is a shythole and a lot of people are immigrating/escaping to the DR. These are common knowledge.

You posted as if they weren't/aren't trying. They are trying even so the situation is very complex. And lets stop trying to over-exaggerate like all Haitians are trying to migrate to the DR, when Haiti itself holds the majority of the population on the Island.

If they weren't celebrities in America, they would be considered second-class citizens in DR.

Does the fact that Barack Obama, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Will Smith are all black mean that the United States doesn't have a serious race issue?
I see your point. Have you lived in the DR? Have you traveled around?

Not being a dikk. But every dominican on this site admits racism is a problem. But to hear people on the coli who aren't dominican and haven't even been there aside from some stay at Punta Cana...I mean I can't really take it serious.

You got a point but I want to point out that the US voted in a black president a while ago. Not only that, his father was Kenyan. To this day, there are Americans (white liberals) who would curse you the fukk out if you say one bad word about this man..

Go fukk yourself.

Africa is a MAJORITY dark skin continent especially in the sub sahara region.
Please don't speak on stuff you don't know about with your small mind. Where do you get this idea that the "majority of Africa" is one skin color? Nonsense. According to your logic the Khoi people of Southern Africa which is in Sub Sahara Africa are not real Africans, because they're light skin. When in fact they carry the oldest lineages on the continent. Africa is the most diverse continent via genetics and phenotypes; especially the "Sub Sahara" region that you speak of. One tiny village in Africa has more genetic diversity than an entire city in the United States. LOL with African when "majority dark skin" when we have this:
Human skin color diversity is highest in sub-Saharan African populations.
Previous studies of genetic and craniometric traits have found higher levels of within-population diversity in sub-Saharan Africa compared to other geographic regions. This study examines regional differences in within-population diversity of human skin color. Published data on skin reflectance were collected for 98 male samples from eight geographic regions: sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, Europe, West Asia, Southwest Asia, South Asia, Australasia, and the New World. Regional differences in local within-population diversity were examined using two measures of variability: the sample variance and the sample coefficient of variation. For both measures, the average level of within-population diversity is higher in sub-Saharan Africa than in other geographic regions. This difference persists even after adjusting for a correlation between within-population diversity and distance from the equator. Though affected by natural selection, skin color variation shows the same pattern of higher African diversity as found with other traits.

Ha!

But this thread is not about the diversity of Africa, but Dominicans/Haitians.

:comeon: You're just mad that I called Haiti for what it is; a shythole country. And Haitians escaping to the DR isn't a "win-win" situation if the former are only getting cheap labour jobs.

honestly i cant. i didnt know about that and those dudes are fools. the only explanation i saw on a site was about how those carnivals are usuall bizarro world themed like the carnaval in la vega. dr is a super religious country yet for that carnival people dress up like devils and demons. somebody compared the kkk outfits to that but idk :yeshrug: not a good look.

I've visited DR twice before. I'm not going back again because both times, I saw the natives being conflicted about how to embrace me (I'm from the US but I'm of Haitian descent). Moreover, I saw with my own eyes how Dominicans treat Haitians in their country. I will not be giving the DR any more of my travel money.

Although the Coli can be harsh on DR (but is it really?), the reputation is warranted, given the extensive history between the Dominicans and Haitians.

And I say this as somebody who speaks Spanish and grew up with and befriended Dominicans. Hell, my line brother is engaged to a (light skinned) Dominican and she concedes that Dominicans are inherently racist against blacks.
