His comments will be controversial because there are voices that promote the idea that violent crimes occur because of "lack of economic opportunity""poverty" and "let's examine the root causes of crime"

So poverty does not impact crime?

You can use nuance when excusing historical international crimes but when it comes to this it's Black and White :ehh:

Baltimore ended 2022 with about 332 homicides which is despicable considering the size of the city. There is no end in sight. Year after year it’s the same shyt :mjcry:

He has a point, but Brandon Scott has done more harm to the city than good. Baltimore has had over 300 murders ever year since 2015.. 330 in 2022. He has no answers

That's because the nikkaz doing the killing aren't the people who are leaving the city.

But believing that violent crime occurs because of "lack of economic opportunity" =/= disagreeing with his point.

You make it sound as if people who promote those ideas are inherently against the punishing of criminals...
most of the time the "_____ needs to end and people needs to be punished" rhetoric is used to excuse increase in police budgets and arrests.

Exactly!!!

I'm not against policing IF they are not abusing people civil liberties and are operating ethically but you are right this just a sound bite to funnel more money in that direction.

He's not that blunt when you ask him his plans to reduce violence in the city.
Right. What does being blunt about the obvious out of hand violence do to quell the violence? Nothing. Just rhetoric. Homie thought since he’s from the city he could come in and be Mr. Cool but nobody has the answer. Nobody likes Mayor Giuliani in NYC but why not attempt to follow his footsteps in what was down out there to stop the violence? In 1990 NYC had 2,000 homicides! The past few years a city with 8 million is ending each year with nearly the same amount of homicides as Baltimore! A city with only roughly 600,000 people! Figure it out!

Answer me this..

If poverty is the root cause in crimes.. Why would elected officials across this country take already impoverished people (illegal immigrants) and dump them in areas that are already impoverished?

To be fair to him, how is one person supposed to stop this?
What policy is going to prevent all of this?

Mayor Scott is getting a lot of heat because he said he would reduce the murder rate by 15% in his first year. I get the criticism but people are expecting miracles.

Because illegal immigrants have companies ready to exploit their labor for cheap.

If that was not the case we would see a massive crime spike from them.

Back when the Irish started to immigrate to the US in the 1850's they were vastly over represented in arrest in New York.

Astonishing statistics about ethnicity and criminal justice in New York — from the 1850s
