Klay’s defense has always been hilariously overrated

I kept trying to tell dudes that he was going to be washed after those two injuries but they weren’t trying to hear it. Dude missed nearly two and a half years of basketball due to injury. There was no way that he was going to come back and be even close to the player he was before and I still stand by that.
Don't leave out the part where you kept telling us they weren't title contenders last year because of that...

Durant had an Achilles injury. Durant was never the defender Klay was. Klay was defending the other teams scorers at a high level.

I don’t even understand what you tryin to say with the Cousins vs Klay analogy
Just proves to me y’all don’t know what the hell you’re watching.

Durant provided more defensive value than Klay. Durant is not a defender you want guarding you in isolation. He is an outstanding on-ball defender with a mean streak and big time length. He was in the 96th percentile of isolation defenders in 2018. If you actually watch KD you’d see he is incredibly hard to get past or get shot up against in one-on-one situations.

Durant provides more rim protection, Durant provides better post defense, Durant is a better defensive playmaker (deflections, steals, blocks), Durant is more versatile and switchable.

What Durant sucks at is fighting through screens, defending P&R ball handlers, defending spot ups, and off-ball awareness (where Klay isn’t good either).

Klay=one of the most overrated defensive players of All-Time, usually by casuals that only look at “point of attack” defense and his outings against smaller guards he could contain due to his size in relation. Klay’s reputation also comes from being in high leverage defensive situations in the playoffs where even if he got baked (Kyrie) he gets propped up for the assignment. He has benefitted from Steph’s reputation as a “weak” defender (Steph is actually a very underrated defender at this point) because he is seen as the guy that covers for his weakness. The media ran with this around 2015 and now it’s taken a life of its own.

I don’t give a fukk about narratives nikka

They were on the same team at one point and Durant was the better defender on that team

Actually that’s you paper, theoreticals, narratives that’s what you base your shyt on.

The actual facts (literal Synergy statistics that show effectiveness by play type) have Durant as the superior defender when they were together and throughout their careers and that’s without getting into the analytics that have never rated Klay as anywhere near an elite defender.

KD never prided himself on being a great defender. He's not terrible but that's not what he is. He can do some things in spots but not consistently. Nobody was putting KD on another teams best scorer and saying aight nikka lock him down like LeBron was used.

KD had the ability and the length but not the mentality because he's soft and weak mentally and physically

I have no problem or shame in admitting that at all. The same posters in here saying Klay needs more time are the same posters who kept arguing last year that he was going to be Klay again come playoff.

They obviously didn’t need him, but still doesn’t change the premise of my point.

No he's not. :dead:
His clutch reputation is based on his Game 6 performances.

It makes people forget all his stinkers.

Klay is not one of the most clutch players in league history he caught fire in some pivotal games but he’s no Ray Allen.
