Does Klay Thompson in his head believe he’s washed?

All he gotta do is catch and shoot at the least. He can’t be “washed”
Pretty much this. Dude is going to have a long career at the 3&D role.

As long as Klay can go nuclear and make the correct read in a system he knows very well, dude can play until he's 40 unless he has a career-ending injury.

I also don't think he has a problem taking the backseat to Poole and coming off the bench. Dude cares mainly about winning and the team winning.

Yesterday a younger player went at an older player at the tail end of their's. Happens all the time.

His defense has been rather mehhh since he's been back. If he doesn't improve on that aspect, then he's no different than a lot of other players out here who shoot from 3, but are trash at defense.

I'd say he needs to probably do like the Mavs use Luka: take him off the quick smaller guards (who he used to be able to keep up with) and switch onto the slower wings. The defensive instincts and IQ are still all there so I think he can still be effective, but that'll depend on the match-up and lineups.

A shooter like Klay's net contributions to offense are also better than most 3&D players past their primes so the Warriors will try and get everything they can out of him. Good news is the Warriors have a lot of talent defensively to mask/assist Klay who he can funnel the offensive player to. It'll definitely be match-up dependent though than the past rather than simply keeping him out on the court by default though.

Oh the defensive instincts and IQ are still there. but his legs aren't due to time and injury and I don't believe that time will change. I would love for him to prove me wrong and I'll have no problem admitting it.

Dudes came in here defensive as hell lol. It’s a valid question. And yes the muthafukka is WASHED.

Very clearly not the same player. Book was bussing his ass last night and he got frustrated. I don’t know why dudes are saying how can he be washed if all he does is catch and shoot, when he was clearly an elite wing defender at one point in time and one of the top 2 way players. Shooting requires elevation, balance and landing, over and over. He’s had 2 catastrophic knee injuries back to back. I’m 100% sure it’s affected his shot, and it’s showing.
In order for the question to be valid, it needs to come from an honest place, which it clearly isn't.

On the topic though -

"In an interview with Kendra Andrews of ESPN, Klay revealed the mental block he's going through that stopped him from playing in the Warriors' preseason games in Japan.

"I didn't play much this summer," Thompson said. "With what I went through the last summer, I was healthy, popping my Achilles, it was really hard for me to get out of it, mentally. It's hard to explain. It's a mental block or something. I'm going to face it one day, but this season was so taxing, just coming back. It was hard to win a championship and then play a month later."

He didn't have a proper preseason, and we're only four games into this season, so it stands to reason he doesn't have his conditioning right, at this point. It's the reason why Kerr has been managing his and Dray's minutes to start the year. We'll get a better idea as to where he is when he gets his body and mind right.

The form he was in during that finals series was amazing. Too bad Green made that unfortunate play.

Above the fray.
The threadstarter posed an interesting question. Last night he looked frustrated and was 1/8 from the field and missed all of his 3pt attempts.

Yeah, the fact that his shooting numbers up until the point of ejection took a back seat to smilies, jokes, insults indicates what time people are on in sports discussions here.

He was having a bad night. Playing against a DOG who is entering his prime. His game usually does the talking for him, but since it's not what it once was, he started talking and trying to bait the opponent.

Straight from Flatbush
Klay and Dray are "washed", until it's time to give Steph his flowers, and then conveniently they're "All-Stars" and "Hall of Famers".

:lolbron:

He’s definitely not the same player anymore and I’m a fan of Klay

But I wouldn’t say washed either

I will say he needs to stop chucking. At times last season, he’d touch the ball and just throw it up
