Yeah...I remember correctly nobody being too thrilled about the album other than "If I Ruled the World":francis:. Also clowning Nas for the salmon colored suit in Street Dreams:mjlol:.

That suit was lit though:ehh:
IWW is an album people appreciated more with time. When it dropped everybody expected another Illmatic and when we didn't get it there was disappointed. I don't think its a classic but its a very good album. I feel the same way about GKMC

No doubt. I remember not caring for the album when it was released but when I got older and borrowed it from my aunt, it actually was a pretty good album. Even that corny ass song "Nas Is Coming" was tolerable. Now GKMC I still feel is a classic in my eye due to the time it came out and how well organized the album was. I appreciate albums that have a end game and beginning. GKMC felt like a Hughes Brother's movie imo.

First of all, that's like asking me who has the best cinematography. It's a weird ass question because it doesn't fit with the medium we're discussing.

Hip hop albums aren't supposed to be one grand narrative through an entire album and we don't pride the albums on that shyt. Also, and more importantly, GKMC doesn't have a consistent and coherent narrative either. It's an album with random ass tracks struggle-threaded together by skits (which do the heavy lifting).

Rocky. It's not even close.

But my point is more along the lines of: "Don't fall for paid critics who force this idea of Kendrick being unquestionably better than everyone else so they can quickly shoehorn him into the goat convo" when in fact there is no consensus on Kendrick being the best in this era. It's weird as fukk how paid critics and rosenbergs straight up skip past the fact that Kendrick aint the best in his own era.

I think Rocky shyts on Kendrick in every way. Some might think Drake shyts on Rocky in every way. These things are arguable as long as a good argument is presented.

I mean look I fukks with Rocky and I'll do you one better and say the ASAP crew is more diverse than people think (Nast, Ferg etc) but I dont know about that man. I just think out of the current crop, Kendrick has the best overall lyricist boxes ticked.

But I will say I agree that maybe there's an overinflation to Kendrick's discography when people wanna eagerly take out folks like Nas, Biggie, Cube as I'm seeing on twitter and that might get a backlash

bytch you caught feeling cause I laughed at someone else that questioned NaS' selling power:lmaonas: You took offense and was so mad you didn't even realize that I was addressing someone else you hoemotional bytch:umad:

Blame yourself for sneak dissing, you catching strays for nothing

Now that Nas is in the era of the pirate with everyone else his selling power is in question. Jay (past era) and Kendrick (current) went plat in this era, did nas?

That's a clever deflection but storytelling has always been a part of rap and doing it over the course of an album instead of on a single song isn't cinematography.

GKMC told a story of that night over the course of the album. The songs were thematically relevant to where the story was and the skits helped progressed the story. The "heavy lifting" shyt is hater talk, if the story didn't advance through skits the alternative would be an entire album of storytelling tracks which would have dulled the albums diverse content.

Diverse content is another thing Kendrick has over Nas definitely

I thought it's because nikkaz hated trackmasters even when they delivered.

I don't understand why IWW isn't up there with the other GOAT albums either
nikkas hated Nas over Trackmasters. We wanted more Primo, Pete Rock, and Large Professor. I remember the day me and my cousin went half on the album and we opened it up and saw the lyrics printed out. We lost our minds over that.

Than we threw on the album and were like:francis:

You're right it was a very consistent and coherent album. But you don't get an A for effort. Yall giving this nikka props purely based on the concept of the album
No...Giving props on that and executing said concept on a level nobody can compare to right now. Nas never executed that as well as Kendrick has TWICE. And most of yall favorite rappers have never attempted to. Maybe thats why nikkas are satisfied with the microwave music lazy efforts nikkas like future drop with a "album" full of singles with a handful of good songs. Kendricks approach is way more ambitious and pushes the artform further. I don't know how much it should count for but it should count for something

Somebody in this thread said if you remove like 5 songs from Stillmatic it would be a classic. That don't sound like a classic album to me. you can't remove any songs from GKMC or TPAB without changing the entire experience.
